This is to address illegitimate behavior and money extortion by the moving company Perfect Packers, 2258 Mountainside Dr., Unit 1, Burlington, L7P 1B7, Ontario occurred on the day of our move on December, 2007. After they overcharged me in my last move, this time I have taken written guarantee from the owner that under no circumstances his crew would overcharge me beyond what's quoted.

But at the end of the move they not only overcharged me but also took a check of higher amount from me through enormous noise and rowdy behaviour on my property and yelling that they do not believe in the written guarantee by their owner as they believe that the quote was wrong and I must pay what they demand.

Moving locations have 30 min worth of travel time in between. The truck was only half full. All packings were done by me before they arrived.

Arrived almost an hour late. Travel time between the locations was taken 2 hours and 45 min instead of 30 min.

Following were the sequence of our move on the day of moving:

Under fair calculation method following should have occurred. Total moving time = 5.75 hours + 0.5 hours (Travel Time) = 6.25 hours
Total amount charged should be = 6.25 * $110.00 = 687.5 + 41.25 (GST) = $728.75

Price was guaranteed not to exceed $770 + GST $46.2= $816.2

Instead their crew have forcibly taken $880 dollars by making a lot of noise at my house and at that time, they were on the phone with the owner. He requested me to provide their staff the amount they wanted because of the hot situation and he promised to get back to me on the following business day which he never did. Instead, he encashed the check I have provided.

The owner Robert Spence have specifically given me written guarantee that under no circumstance they would charge me higher than $770 and if it's less they would charge me less.

Side note: Service dissatisfaction:

Their movers did not have plastic wrap for protection of my furniture and equipments as committed during the quote.

Robert Spencer committed to provide 3 person for moving. Instead his 3rd person was a 16 year old teenager which I believe slowed down the move and got me actively involved in moving.

Yes I filed complaint with BBB. But like in all cases, BBB contacted the company and of course the company owner has defended themselves with untrue statements. Therefore, BBB has kept a copy of my complaints under the file of this company. There it ends with BBB.

Did you file a complaint with the bbb? Your story sounds more like an internal problem with some employees that the company maybe needs to address, but of course i don't know. I'm going to use them anyhow because they are the only moving co. that bothered to registar with the bbb and from what i read in the report they make every posible effort to resolves differences. you can go to the bbb web site and look up the history of complaints against them and how they were resolved. I'll let you know my experience positive or negative after i use them.

To you first point, the previous crew who did our last move few years ago were gentle and handled all my items very carefully. Therefore, even though they charged me higher than quoted amount (about $450 instead of $300), I did not have a problem considering the extra amount as tips for those boys because the quote was not guaranteed. But this time, they gave me a written guarantee on the the quote of $770 saying "No higher than quoted amount". This quote is already higher than market price; but because my dealings with the previous crew I agreed to that quote. But this time they not only had no protective packing around my items, but also had very poor approach, taken more than 2 hours for their lunch and charged me for that time.

To your second point, they started yelling at a high pitch that the quote was given by the dad (Robert) of the owner (Jeff) and was given wrong and I have to pay for the time they quote at the end of the move. I agree that I should have called police at that time. But because have a family I did not want to create a scene during an auspicious day of the move. And also for the reason that the son of the person gave me the quote was on the phone and assured me that he would get back to me on Monday after the weekend and I believed him.

To your third point, in addition to my response above, it was a surprise for me too. I emailed them on Wednesday after waiting for 2 days with no response. First they replied saying, Robert Spence, the quotation giver is sick. A day later they replied to my astonishment, denying all the details to the facts based on what they heard from their contracted crew defending their overcharge. Therefore, day before yesterday, I replied back to them with proper responses and stated that their email is a complete denial of facts.

Finally, I came to understand that they did not hesitate to disrespect their unconditional guarantee through lame excuses, e.g. they said they packed my boxes and that took time, but the truth is, all my 11 boxes were packed by myself way before they arrived. In addition, they gurantee took into account of all moving related small stuff and that is why they quoted me so much higher than market price.

All I felt at the end that they fooled me for good as a result of my trust.

Several things you could have done...

AUTHOR: Debbie - (U.S.A.)

There are red flags that popped up all over the place in this situation.

First of all, WHY would you hire this company again, when you stated early on that the last time you used them, they overcharged you? Are they the only moving company in Ontario??? Get burned once, move on.....

Secondly, you don't give specifics, but state that they were being "rowdy" on your property demanding money. Is this before or after they had unloaded your belongings? A quick phone call to local police would have taken care of this problem. Nobody is going to "scare" me into giving them money!

Third - I find it hard to believe (but I'm not doubting it happened) that the OWNER of the company would have no control over his employees and allow them to harrass a customer - I'm speaking of the phone conversation you said they had with the owner while at your home, and he told you to just go ahead and pay them and he would settle up with you later. Just doesn't make sense. It seems like the clowns are running the circus here!
