To keep it simple, my company was commissioned to work with this company to complete the following - logo, magazine ad, and website. Our company charges at a rate of $75 an hour for design work but we build that into a invoice since hours cannot be tracked. So we started off by designing a logo, which is where we normally start and usually takes about a couple days to complete depending on revisions. Months later we were still working on the same logo with tweaks here and there keeping our mouth shut. Then apparently a opportunity arose to them to put an ad in an international traffic magazine, so i requested the specs for the magazine to get started. Also what verbiage was to go on the ad. They sent me a link for the specs and nothing for the actual ad. Then we asked repeatedly to get the information to be used on the ad over and over. We finally got it about 6 hours before the magazine deadline. We then proceeded to drop everything and get this magazine ad completed, because we understand deadlines. After completing both the logo and magazine in the short amount of time, we submitted it directly to the magazine company located in England. After everything was completed and submitted, even with the ridiculous deadline, we were shortly informed after that they do not see why they have to pay for our services. They then asked for the raw files of both the logo and magazine ad. Like other design firms (any real company) we will not produce files without some sort of payment. Technically we should have never sent the actual ad to London to be produced. Anyway we wrote this to inform other potential design companies to be cautious with working with Platesmart aka Cyclops Technology.

The Replacements Side of the Story

AUTHOR: Necroto.com Graphic Design - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 06, 2009

I am a graphic designer, who has been ripped off in the past so I do understand what it's like. However, I do not believe this complaint is fair or truly represents the people I've worked with at PlateSmart/Cyclops Tech.

Here is my story, everything is 100% factual and can be proven when this does go to court.

On November 4, 2008, I was contacted by PlateSmart/Cyclops Tech through my website. I was invited to meet with them two days later to discuss building a website, redesigning their logo, create a full page advertisement for a magazine and business card design. We met on November 6th, had a great meeting after which I provided them with a quote to do the work. I only say that the quote I offered was a fraction of the $75 per hour that this company had charged them.

During this meeting I was shown an advertisement and asked my opinion of it. My first thought was I liked the background and general overall layout. My second thought was the logo was simply awful, the font was very hard to read and my third thought was I've never seen a police car hummer before.

I sent them my quote for work, in a contract. They mentioned that they liked my quote, but needed it adjusted to recreate some of the artwork that the prior designer would not release to them. I told them I didn't need it. That next Monday they signed off on the contract and provided a 50% deposit upfront.

I then began the logo design. I will admit, it was a longer process then I had originally expected, but I wanted to be sure that the client was happy with this logo, being that it was going to gain so much exposure. I offered them a flat rate for the logo design just to prove that I meant that I wanted it to be done right. I come from the school of make your client happy. When they are proud of their new logo, they become a walking billboard for you as a designer. Word of mouth will always be the most effective form of advertising. It took many weeks to get the logo exactly how they liked it. This process was slowed also as the CEO had a medical emergency during this process.

Once the new logo was established, all the other work was very easy and less time consuming than expected because design and layout was already established within the logo process. So while I did invest more initially, it has been making averaging out some with the other work.

Frankly, the designs provided to PlateSmart/Cyclops Tech for the logo and advertisement, were amateur at best. They were not good. They had some nice attributes, but generally overall, not good. I've worked in management and had many designers work beneath me, if any of them would've shown me this work I would have simply sent them back to the drawing board.

The new logo has the 'stealthy yet techy' look that was the main focus of our original meeting, and from what I understand they love it. The business cards have been printed and will be shipped this week. The Under Construction page currently on the website shows the new designs and layout. The website template and advertisement has been approved. We have already moved on to working on a vehicle wrap.

I have nothing but the best to say about everyone I've come in contact with at PlateSmart/Cyclops Tech. They have been upfront about leaving a deposit. They have offered (yes, offered) extra money, for additional time spent designing their logo, getting it perfect.

The poster above should have no complaints. They have been paid some money for the time they have invested. The client didn't like their product. The client found someone else who provided a better product at a fraction of the costs. Whoever posted this complaint is completely out of line.

Anyone who would like to see the old ad/logo vs the new ad/logo can feel free to contact me.

#4 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Response to false allegations

AUTHOR: Platesmart Technologies/cyclops Technologies - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 06, 2009

A legal complaint has been filed against Visual Realm as follows: In 2008, VISUAL REALM was hired by CYCLOPS to perform certain marketing services for PlateSmart, including the creation of a website and new logo and the placement of advertisements in certain appropriate forums. After CYCLOPS made payments to VISUAL REALM for partially completed work, it became apparent to CYCLOPS that VISUAL REALM's work was substandard, not within the industry standard and without a focused direction. During the design phase of the website, VISUAL REALM refused to take direction from CYCLOPS concerning the appearance of its website. As a result of VISUAL REALM's substandard work, CYCLOPS was eventually forced to hire other persons to oversee the marketing efforts and to work with VISUAL REALM. However, VISUAL REALM refused to cooperate with CYCLOPS and to work with the person hired by CYCLOPS to oversee VISUAL REALM's work. VISUAL REALM also refused to complete its marketing efforts although it had already received payment from CYCLOPS. Without warning or cause, and despite having already received partial payment, VISUAL REALM abandoned the work. On or about December 3, 2008, VISUAL REALM published false and derogatory statements concerning CYCLOPS on a public website bearing the 2 domain name www.ripoffreport.com with the stated purpose if inform[ing] other potential design companies to be cautious with working with Platesmart aka Cyclops Technology. The false and defamatory comments published by VISUAL REALM imply that CYCLOPS was not willing to pay VISUAL REALM for any of its services, that CYCLOPS refused to cooperate with it in the placement of an advertisement for an international publication, that CYCLOPS imposed a ridiculous deadline, that CYCLOPS attempted to avoid payment for the services and that other companies should be cautious with working with [CYCLOPS]. VISUAL REALM's statements impute to CYCLOPS conduct and characteristics incompatible with the proper exercise of its lawful business, trade and profession. VISUAL REALM's statements are false and by their nature, necessarily injurious to CYCLOPS' business reputation. VISUAL REALM intentionally published false communications to the entire world on the Internet. CYCLOPS is demanding judgment against VISUAL REALMS, jointly and severally, for money damages, costs and such further relief as deemed just and proper.
