Pool.com Namescout.com Momentus.com A Backorder Domain Name Acquiring Scam Ottawa Ontario Canada
Pool.com and Namescout.com are the same company. If there is a valuable domain name expiring through Namescout, Pool will acquire the domain name and sell it. Normally this is okay, but they are very dishonest and pretend there is an owner that has acquired the domain using Pool.com's backorder service and they are just the broker. This is completely false, and here is why.
I inquired about a particular domain name registered through Namescout several times. I was told by Namescout to contact the email listed on the Registrant who is, but the email was no longer valid. Since the domain name was weeks away from expiration, I added the domain name to Pool.com backorder service. I was then informed by Namescout that the Registrant info had changed to Pool.com (they are the same company). I then contacted Pool.com and they told me the domain was acquired by a customer using the Pool.com backorder service.
I thought this was peculiar because I had the domain listed on my backorder list, and if it was indeed acquired by backorder, it would have gone into auction and I would have had the chance to bid on the domain name. Furthermore, the acquisition by the fictitious customer actually took place before the domain name had expired according to the Who Is. If anyone knows anything about domain name expiration, a domain name isn't actually released by the Registrar until several weeks, even months, after the domain expiration date listed on Who is.
So basically, any valuable domain that is registered through Namescout will be acquired directly by Pool.com and sold under a false premise. Pool discovers which domains are valuable by how many people add the domain using their backorder service. This is a huge conflict of interest and a scam. It basically equates to insider trading. I would recommend never registering your name through Namescout or using Pool.com backorder service (Momentous is the parent comapny). I will be spreading the word about these scammers and filing an official complaint with ICANN.
