I sent a package to El salvador which weighed around 5 lbs with box and the clerk told me it cost $90 to ship, which seemed pretty expensive to me then he went and said since ground services are no longer offered by any carrier that the only way to ship was by air and that is why the price was so high, ask the clerk peter if the price was standard if I shipped it somewhere else ans he said yes, also my wife wanted to sent a 10lbs box to germany and her box cost $110, she declined to ship it there and we did a little research online using the usps website and shipping both boxes cost half of what we were told at that store. I went next day trying to find out why I was being charged double and basically the lady Esther told me that just beacause they go themselves to the postal office thats the price Im paying, so they can save me the trip and standing in line. None of this was explained to me at the time I was paying nor I was given a detail of shipping and other charges.

I too was taken advantage of by a Postal Annex

AUTHOR: Clw315 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, April 26, 2012

I will never use a postal annex again and I will be sure to let all my friends and family know how I was treated at postal annex on 125 Old Grove Rd #9 Oceanside, Ca 92057. On April 25, 2012, I mailed a package with dimensions 16*12*12 that weighs 19.2 lbs from area code 92058 to area code 09330 (an APO) and it cost $49.94 however, the owner gave me a 10% discount
because I purchased my box (at an earlier date) from him so I paid a total of $45.00.

After ordering some food next door, I started thinking why did it cost so much. I looked online on USPS.com as well as called them and it would only have cost me $26.23. So, I went back into the store and asked how did he calculate the price and if I could have a detailed receipt that showed how he came to the price.

He told me no, he is sorry but he cannot do that. That yes they do charge more than the post office, but not that much more. I said almost $20 more is a lot more. I asked for a refund since it had only been about 30 minutes and my package had not been sent off. He told me that he could not do that because he has never given a refund ever. And all sales are final. He then Told me it would be a felony if he gave me my package back.

By this point I was extremely upset and crying (I know I shouldn't have started crying but I couldn't stop the tears) because of how badly I had been taken advantage of. I asked to speak to someone else and he laughed in my face and said sorry but he is the owner.

He asked me to leave his store and I said I will when I get a detailed receipt of how I was charged and why it was so much more. He continued to say I must not be from around here (and was demanding to know where I was from) because I obviously do not know how California businesses are ran, that his rent is over $5,000 a month and so on about other costs he has. I told him it doesn't matter where I am from because you don't treat people like this.

He then told me that if I did not leave he would call the cops on me. I said what are you going to tell them? He said let's see "Disturbing the Peace". I told him to call the cops then, because all I am asking for is a detailed receipt for why I was charged so much. I was the only one in the freaking store besides the fed ex guy who was supposed to be out making deliveries but had been talking to the owner for the past hour. The owner then started laughing at me told me I was really starting to annoy him and that I was immature that I must be 18 years old or am I 12 years old.

That is when I started asking him how he could run a business like this, he told me maybe I do not need to mail packages there anymore. I said don't worry I won't. Wow you are complaining about having such a high rent and expenses for your business yet you threaten your customers and tell them not to come back. I now realize why he has no business and why the other time I went into the store there were absolutely no customers.

I then left the store and called the corporate office in San Diego at 619-563-4800. I was transferred to Chris whom I explained the situation to and was told he would call me back in the morning. (Which I am still waiting on that call).

I just thought everyone should know and be warned on how these independently owned franchises treat their customers and give all Postal Annexes a bad name. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau (which surprise surprise they are not listed as a BBB accredited place) as well as let everyone know through social networking and word of mouth how they treat their customers.

They are a rip off! Please do not waste your money! Just go to the regular post office, they will not overcharge you. If I wouldn't have been in the area I would have never used a Postal Annex.

WOW!! So I just got off the phone with this Chris guy from corporate and he claims that price I was charged is standard.... really because the post office would have charged $20 less. Never again will i ever do business with a postal Annex.
