Ran into emloyees of PTS three times in two months, using fraud and telling lies to sell home theater equipment to people on the streets. Each time they showed me a magazine of their products, marked with PTS, and they wore PTS t-shirts.

They told the same story, stating they were delivering speakers to a local business and the order was placed wrong, putting them in a situation where they needed to get rid of the extras by selling them off quickly. The local businesses they mentioned never were expecting a delivery from PTS, and the salesmen gave me phony information, particularly phone numbers.

Friendly, very well trained, and convincing. Products they had available for sale are on their website; the speakers I bought were LISTED at $1500 a piece, but according the many opinions I received, they're worth no more than $100 a piece.

They sound very low quality. Come to find out, they've been at this for years, and the products they've sold have taken a number of brand names: Dogg Digital, Theater Research, Digital Research, and others, all of which local professional electronics retailers have never heard of.

I found SEVERAL open forums on ecoustics.com filled with literally HUNDREDS of complaints from people all over the U.S. and Canada telling the exact same story, and mentioning the name of PTS. I found them by way of a google search for 'Digital Research Scam'.

Very obviosly-well organized and executed nation-wide scam that no one seems to be able to do anything about. Their website says they're hiring for "inside sales".

I have sent a message to the Better Business Bureau in Phoenix, AZ and let them know of my concern. In reply, they asked for more information on the company. I included some of the folloing that I think would be useful to post here:

I discovered how wide-spread this company's actions were by finding and reading the following open forums: http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/3/15757.html

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/3/10780.html

The company website puts up all the red flags: they do not sell their products online, they have no retail locations, and they don't sell their products to retail stores. Their job listing for "Inside Sales" (describing the undercover salesmen that I encountered) seems to be their only option for income, and the text I think affirms even more the nature of it: "...people skills are a must! Salary plus commission with benefits." I know for a fact it was this company with the same logo and products that I encountered.

May I present the following points for consideration:
1.) Attempting to reveal the identities of individual salesmen is futile in the long run. There are hundreds of them. The only way to put an end to these businesses is to strike at the core.

2.) We as ordinary people do not have the resources to stop these things from happening, but we CAN report what we do know to those who can make a difference. That is why I chose to contact the BBB. My first attempt to file a complaint to the general council was unsuccessful, so I trust that the local bureau in my area can forward the information to where it needs to be. I suggest anyone who has encountered salesmen of this type, no matter what category, gather whatever information they can on them, and report it to an organization such as the BBB. The business is at least then prone to investigation. In such matters, there is more power in numbers.

3.) Let people around you know about it. Call the local radio stations. They're usually pretty open to announcements of that nature. Write a letter to local newspapers. Let your friends know about it: surprizingly, gossip has some purpose for good. In the ideal situation, the warning will be spread well enough to be called "common knowlege", and that will make business very hard for the would-be salesmen.

4.) Ultimately, the BEST way to get all the information you would ever need on a company like this would be to actually apply for employment and be hired... though I do not personally suggest doing so. However, I'm not going to try to stop you, either, if you know what I mean. The more "absolute" information you can gather and report on the company and their employees, the better.

Once again, I commend Rip-off Reports for making this site so accessible. I would appreciate any additionaly input from anyone that knows of more ways to spread this warning and help shut these businesses down. For now, I will do everything I can to prevent PTS from harming more people. Thanks for your support, Paul, and any others who are willing to stand up and make a difference.

Give us a way to put a stop to this. Nobody wants to see people pay good money for worthless speakers.

You claim that the unfortunate gullible nature of myself made you do this.

Well, how can anyone stop the next gullible person from doing the exact same thing? Tell me, because I can't think of any way to reach them before the speakers frauds do.

We're all behind you, Jared! Now, what do we do? What is the answer?

Movements to prevent public scams should be supported, not criticized.

Some businesses actually do follow a policy that categorizes all delivered products to be officially "sold", thus marking superfulous items as having no "owner", in the which case, they would be received at no charge. With all due respect, I ask of you, please don't make rash assumptions. It is the unfortunate gullable nature of myself, along with hundreds of other people all across the country, that this business has unethically taken advantage of for profit.

In retrospect, I completely understand that I made an unintellegent decision, and I accept the consequenses of it. I'm not asking for my money back; that's not important to me. I just cannot bear to sit by and let tyrants like this financially harm the honest public, who still believe there are actually some trustworthy people out there. Unfortunately, that idea is growing dimmer and dimmer, and it's all because of businesses like this. I wish people would stop criticizing eachother out of mindless apathy, and just help make a dang difference in this world. I commend Rip-Off Report.com for doing their part. Hopefully others will follow.

"They told the same story, stating they were delivering speakers to a local business and the order was placed wrong, putting them in a situation where they needed to get rid of the extras by selling them off quickly."

1. Right off the bat you thought you are buying stolen speakers. (Come on, you really didn't believe the salesman.) I mean, who would think that if an order was wrong the delivery man had the authority to sell the product on the street?
2. What kind of merchandise do you think you're going to get buying out of a van or car trunk?
