I am filing this report on behalf of a friend, she's got some issues, but was able to recognize that something about this was not right, and brought it to me to check out.
Looked this company up online, found no web page for them, but found this site. The one entry was dated exactly the same day that my friend got this letter. And word for word the same deal. I wasn't surprised that the other person got ripped off.
Same deal, a letter with instructions, explaining how my friend was to go through training, apparently solo OJT. Weekly training pay of 300 dollars, funds to transfer via Moneygram or Western Union to a person of your choice, and another bonus 200 for gas and shopping.
There was an enclosed check for 3500 dollars to be deposited in any of her accounts, and a customer satisfaction form, to be filled out and faxed to the coordinator. The instructions also carried a requirement to call the coordinator for further instructions within 24 hrs of depositing the check, and again to report the results. I was wondering why the redundant reporting.
Once again, too good to be true. I advised my friend against it, and urged her to inquire with the local media about it. There are many reports every year about this time regarding scams like this.

After the initial report, I examined the check that was included with the letter. At first glance, it looks legitimate, with 'wachovia' in bold letters in the bottom left corner. No branch information, phone numbers, etc.
Upper left, where the account holders information should be, it says

Being a west-coaster, I had no idea that was a hotel. Googled it, and the address is correct for the hotel, but their website says they are closed for refurbishment until early 2009. The site says nothing about consumer research.
There were no watermarks or 'micro printing' in the paper either, despite some official looking verbiage claiming such anti-fraud devices. I hope our friend takes my advice and takes this whole mess to the local media.
