I bought into the Prepaid Legal scam three years ago. We have had three incidents where we could have used the help of an attorney and we left completely on our own.
In the first incident, my son hit a bicyclist who decided to randomly zip across an LA freeway in rush hour traffic. The police cited the cyclist who turned out to be illegal of course. Our insurance paid for the damage to the car but we had to pay the deductible. PPL was unwilling to help us collect for the deductible. They said that they MAY be willing to assist if the other party decided to sue us.
In the second incident, the gas company charged us a deposit on three different occasions for the same account. Parker Stanbury told us to call the Utilities Commission.
In the third incident, we were evicting a tenant who didn't want to pay rent. The tenant counter-sued. Because the property was in South Carolina, they would need to refer us to another attorney in South Carolina. This was on Friday. The courtcase was on the next Thursday, so I was flying out on Wednesday. On Monday, they called and said they needed more information. I gave them everything I had. On Tuesday, they said they needed the entire file from the Magistrate. I called the Magistrate and asked for the file and they said they could only give it to my attorney. Parker Stanbury said that, since they would not be personally representing me, I could not say they were my attorney. Of course, by the time I got this information from them, it was 4:00 PM in California which is 7:00 PM in South Carolina and all the law offices were closed. I called the PrePaid Legal Customer Service office and they said basically "sorry, can't help." I flew out the next morning at 6:00 AM and went to court by myself. I won, no thanks to Parker Stanbury and PrePaid Legal. Now I will have to hire an attorney in South Carolina to fight for damages and back payments but it sure won't be through PPL. They lost my business.
