I bought a 2002 Mercury Sable from a private owner April, 2009. I had the car checked out by an inspection company and the mechanic told me the transmission was leaking fluid. The owner said that the transmission was just rebuilt in December and is still covered under warranty. I told him that I would not buy the car unless the warranty could be transferred. The owner called Pro-Trans Transmission and Lee Prater agreed to fix the transmission under warranty. In October or November of 2009, I took the car back to Pro-Trans Transmission Service because the car was having trouble switching gears. One of their mechanics told me that the car had an electrical problem which is not covered under the warranty. Take note that no one mentioned that the warranty was not transferable. They wanted to charge me $189 for computer diagnostics and they said that charge would be reduced from the repair costs. I decided to take my car elsewhere because many other places charge only $89. I took my car to Midas and the only issue my car had electrically had to do with the service engine light which was caused by a faulty new battery. The mechanic at Midas assured me that nothing electrical was causing my car to have transmission problems. In the middle of December, my transaxle light came on and my car stopped going in reverse. I took my car to Pro-Trans Transmission Service December 21, 2009 and I was told to wait until after Christmas because they wouldn't be able to get to it before then. I took the car back December 28, 2009. Today, December 30, Lee Prater told me that the transmission needs to be overhauled and that he doesn't believe he should have to fix it for free. He says that most warranties are usually not transferable; but his invoice does not mention that the warranty is not transferable. He also said that the electrical problem could have caused the transmission to burn out and he does not know if I ever got that problem fixed. His website (today on December 30) says that diagnostic service and computer scan are always free of charge. I believe that Mr. Prater is just making up excuses because he doesn't want to do an $1150 job for free. I believe the rebuild wasn't done properly in the first place. The CV joint was torn which Auto Lemon Detectors said should've been replaced during the rebuild, the transmission had a fluid leak, and I had more transmission problems less than a year after it was repaired.

Belt issue

AUTHOR: Pro-Trans Transmission - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 21, 2010

Ms Olden is saying we miss diagnosed a belt and tensioner, I have no knowledge of this issue true or not, the tech that Ms Olden spoke to is no longer with Pro-Trans so I have no way of checking into this statement, its just her word!

Another Example of Their Incompetence

AUTHOR: M - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 19, 2010

I forgot to add another example of their incompetence. When I bought the car, a certified mechanic who checked it out said the belt was making noise because the A/C compressor was about to go bad. When I took my car in to Pro-Trans due to the car not shifting properly, one of their mechanics offered to give me a quote on replacing my tensioner because he said that's what was causing the belt to squeal. I asked him if it could possibly be the A/C compressor because that's what another mechanic already told me and he said no. I gave up on trying to get a quote from them because they never had it ready and luckily they didn't. My belt did eventually snap and when I took it to a repair shop, they said it was because my A/C compressor stopped working, thus, stopped spinning causing the belt to snap. My tensioner works perfectly fine. Just imagine if I would've paid to have Pro-Trans to replace my good tensioner and belt just to have the belt snap anyway due to the A/C compressor.

My side of story

AUTHOR: Pro-Trans Transmission - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 18, 2010

I am responding to Ms Oldens complaint against Pro-Trans Transmission. I am only responding to this to clear my name, Ms Olden was never my customer and I never charged her one red cent. She purchased the vehicle from a previous customer. warranties of this type never transfer over from owner to owner and if she had questions about that she should have contacted Pro-Trans regarding whether it did or not. My customer had called me and told me of his intention to sell the vehicle but the buyer had a company check it out and said there was a transmission leak. I said I would fix the leak at no charge. I repaired the leak. at a later date Ms Olden brought the vehicle in and said it was shifting funny. We checked it out and determined it needed further electrical diagnostic and I quoted her a price, she declined. There was no mention of a warranty because that is stated on my invoices that I do not cover electrical issues. The free service I offer is a basic diagnostic and computer scan, which I do everyday. The 89 dollar service Ms Oldens refers to is what I do for free.  More in depth diagnostics are not FREE. She took her vehicle and I did not hear from her till she burnt the transmission up. I told her I would diagnose the problem. I determined it had an internal problem and quoted her a price. I must state that not all electrical issue will show up on a scan and that as far as I am aware Midas is not a certified transmission repair center. also she states that the CV boot was bad and this was when we repair the leak some 5 months later. Call any shop in San Antonio and ask if the CV boots are part of a transmission rebuild and they will tell you No! Also ask if there warranties transfer, you will get No again. Ms Olden wants her car fixed Free and that is not going to happen.  I have many satisfied customers and If Ms Olden was my original customer we would not be here, I have many reviews and my customer service is second to none. Ms Olden is wanting something for nothing and I am not going to repair her transmission for Free.
