Providian Aka Getsmart Aka Emerge Mastercard ripoff cancelled card for no reason Nationwide Internet

We were trying to build our credit back up after our bankruptcy in early 2000 and was doing this by getting a getsmart card in 2001. My payments were always 1 to 2 weeks early and usually more than the minimum payment due. In October of 2002, we received a letter in the mail on a Saturday afternoon stating that our card would be cancelled and the account would be transferred to Emerge Mastercard on that Monday.

We tried contacting Providian to find out more information, but they said they could not access our account because it had already been transferred out (even though the transfer wasn't suppose to happen for 2 more days). We also found out that Emerge was not officially going to be an open business until that Monday as well so there was no way to contact them either.

The person we spoke to at Providian verified that we had an excellent credit history with them, but that was about all they were willing to do. We were then trying to get the account closed by us instead of them closing it so our credit would not get hurt as bad since we would be the ones initiating it.

Of course, calling Emerge on Monday proved to absolutely worthless. We were on hold for 30 minutes and when we finally spoke to someone there, she couldn't even speak english. We tried to talk to a supervisor, but were informed that there was not one there at that time. She advised that she would have the supervisor call us within 24 hours, but nobody ever called. We submitted for them to send us a reason for the transfer/cancellation, but of course we never received that either. We still do not know anything to this day.

They also jacked up the interest rate on my wife's card that she has had since late 2000 with no late payments unless she cancelled her card, which we did.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PROVIDIAN AKA GETSMART AKA EMERGE MASTERCARD OR YOU WILL WIND UP GETTING SCREWED IN THE END.
