Yesterday, Dec 31, 2012, received a call from an area code 303 number...I don't this number but answered it anyway. A young man on the line asked for me by name, and said he is from a magazines collection office trying to track my shipments. I told him I do not receive magazines. He asked me if I have ordered a magazine subscription, and i repeated i dont get any. He asked me for my age, i told him I wont give that info over the phone because I don't even know who he is. Then he said he wanted to clarify the credit card that has been billed monthly, the visa card , and proceeded to read the first 4 numbers. I have A card with those first 4 numbers...i asked him when I supposedly ordered these magazines, he couldn't tell me, but said his supervisor maybe could. Muffled sounds, then another guy got on the phone, asking if i have enjoyed the magazines i had been receiving....my same answer, I don't get any magazines. I asked him what I supposedly get, he said Good Housekeeping, some Rachel Ray magazine, and another one. Funny, not magazines I would have ordered.... He said that my account had come across his desk to send to collections, I told him that is ridiculous, because i dont even get magazines. He told me he could tell I was an honest person (okay, right!), and he wants to keep that from happening to me...the magazine cycle is a 12 month subscription and billed in the 13th month. I asked him when I supposedly ordered, he said Jan 2012, and it is set to be billed on Jan 28, 2013. I wondered aloud why my acct would be going to collections if it has not even been billed yet, no direct answer for that. And a red flag to me was the previous guy told me twice that he was trying to check on my subscription that had been billed monthly..... So this manager, name given as Adrian Johnson, tells me they are closing now for New Years Eve and will reopen on Weds. He said he will red flag my credit card unless i want to pay $150 to catch up account, of course I laughed! He said he will put my phone number on the national Do Not Call Registery so his company will not bother me again. I questioned that, and said something about how does that keep your company from sending my info to collections. He said the red flag will have a rep in his company investigate it, and his company cant prove that I ever received magazines at my house, so I will be okay. I asked him for the last 4 numbers on my card, he proceeded to read me the first 8 numbers of my DISCOVER card...yeah, the first guy said Visa....another contradiction....so, we ended the call. IAfter grocery shopping, I called the 888 number and got a message , the mailbox is full and can' t accept new messages...then I called back the 303 number from my cellphone memory and got " there is no mailbox on this phone".
