On March 15, 2005, I took my 1995 Firebird into Purrfect Auto store #263 on Washington and Buffalo for a fluid change, filter change, to have my door fixed which was breaking, to have a tune up, replace a water pump, and to have my radio unlocked which requires a code you have to pay for. They told me they could do all these things except for the tune up because that is too difficult with my car. I waited for an hour and a half, talking to Mike Gerardi most of that time who was then part owner. My girlfriend, who was with me and supposedly needed new brakes, knew him from his previous job/her current job.

At first they tried to charge me $481.34 which included taking my engine out for the tune up which they couldn't and didn't do. I told them to take that off the bill, assuming the rest of the work was done because I was not told differently. I was charged $406.34 for what was supposed to be the rest of the work that I ordered as stated above.

While driving it home and after I got home I discovered they did not do any of the other work that I had asked for. They ONLY changed the fluids and we had a coupon for that for $149.95, with the 6 cylinder being slightly extra. They did not even do everything on the coupon, they did not do the tune up or change the air filter, both supposedly included in the price. Yet this took 90 minutes and I was way overcharged at $406.34 with $290 of it supposedly being labor. But the coupon for the only work they did included labor, and their charge per hour for labor there is only $70. They worked on it 90 minutes at the most, not 3 plus hours.

After calling them back the next day, they knew they had overcharged me, but would not credit me the difference. I then went to other Purrfect Auto locations and got several estimates for the same work, all of which were for $180.00 total, including labor. We also contacted one of the owners, Mike Gerardi, who admitted that I was overcharged which I have in writing. He only offered a $150 store credit, refusing to refund my credit card $226 that I was overcharged saying he didn't know how to do a refund. We were also told while the work was being done that the store manager, who rung us up, was known for ripping people off and telling them things were wrong with their cars that were not wrong. So why were they employing this guy? They all seemed to think this was funny.

Since this incident the store manager, who did the work and rung us up, is supposedly no longer there. The new store manager said he would contact the corporate office and that I would hear from them within a week. I did not hear any response, so I contacted their corporate headquarters two weeks later. They had not heard from this store at all, and I gave them my complaint. They assured me a regional manager would be in contact with me right away.

A week later, after not hearing from them still, I called back, and later that day, the regional manager called me back telling me he was looking into the matter and would call me before the end of the day. He did not call back, and I have placed five more calls since, with no word from this person. They appear to be ignoring all contact. I want a refund for the amount I was wrongly overcharged by this company. We are filing in small claims against them.

***As a sidenote noticed how many Purrfect Auto complaints are on this site, but almost all of them have Satisfactory Better Business Bureau ratings. I highly recommend making your complaints here AND on the BBB site. It's free and you can just copy and paste. Purrfect Auto #263 had a Satisfactory record but if you check b/c of me they are now Unsatisfactory. Go ahead and make complaints there if you haven't.

No Cash Refunds

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

Dear Dean,
If you read the back of your invoice carefully, it clearly states that Purrfect Auto doesn't do any cash refunds. If you were offered a store credit, I suggest you take it. The 30/60/90k service on your vehicle would cost 389.95 at our location (store#112). If you decided not to have the spark plugs and the air filter replaced you should have paid around 200-250 dollars, and your request is justified. The new manager at Buffalo is Pete, and I'm sure that he'll help you out in a great way.
Good Luck Dean!
