If you also feel ripped off or scammed by this company or Jason Doughty, and would like to join in our law suit, please call my business line - 1-888-857-2621 and press 2 (name is Pat). Leave me a message and myself or my attorney will contact you right back. Below is a 'brief' overview of what happened: I paid over $17K for a Land Rover 2004 Discovery Rebuild (with many additional add-ons) from Jason Doughty, i.e., Quest 4 x4 , i.e., DB Vintage Auto Sports. The experience has been nothing short of a nightmare from the very beginning. I’m also losing almost all of my investment. Not only does the vehicle no longer run correctly (compression problems, needs a new camshaft, head gaskets are bad), but my mechanic suspects that much of the listed work they promised to do (internal engine work, many new parts, many of which are non-verifiable without disassembling the engine) was either not done, not done correctly, or used/faulty auto parts were used rather than new parts which were listed on the invoice.

(Let me note that the statement above is speculative. We are in the process of a lawsuit against them and working with our credit card company to charge back the amount in repairs for faulty parts and service. With that, a mechanic is disassembling the engine and comparing/documenting the list of so-called repairs and new parts with what was actually done. Based on the problems we have so far, we suspect that there could be over $4K so far in negligent work or bad parts.) I did consider returning the vehicle. It came with a so called ‘warranty’ of 18K miles or 18 months. However, after such difficulty dealing with them during the time they were building it, (I almost cancelled the order on two occasions due to the terrible customer service I received while waiting for the vehicle to be completed and waited 2 months over the estimated completion date to receive the vehicle,) and after being disgusted attempting to exercise my warranty, I decided not to.

Not to mention, I’m 6 hours away and they won’t pay for the towing. They tried every loop hole to avoid honoring the warranty, stating the diagnosis is incorrect and that my mechanic is uninformed, etc. Finally, they agreed to look at the vehicle, but only if I pay over $500 to tow it to them (despite the language in the warranty explicitly stating that an approved local mechanic - under their discretion - would work on the vehicle, or they would travel to my specific town. Once the law suit is filed I will update this file with the actual contract and warranty.) I should say, at this point, and after dealing with them on this project, I would never put the vehicle back into their hands simply due to the horrendous experience I’ve had with them thus far - and their lack of trustworthiness - one of the worst I have ever dealt with in business.

I’d like to also mention that within the first month of getting the finished product, I spent over $2K in additional repairs (ABS lights, i.e., three amigos, sensors, exhaust issues, stalling, sensors needing replacement, roof rack and bumpers rusting out - that they ‘custom built’ and painted.) The roof rack and both custom bumpers rusted out within 2 months of receiving the vehicle. I spent $1200 to get them sanded and painted. All in all, this company completely misrepresents their ‘Land Rover Rebuild’ offer on craigslist and throughout. I don’t believe I’ve ever filed a complaint online about a business before. I understand that customers can be difficult, and no one or company is perfect. But I’ve had such a terrible experience with this company, and I wasted so much money - that I feel morally, I should file this report to expose what is happening with our law suit publicly, and to warn others. It is not my intention to damage the reputation or character of those involved, only to warn others who may consider doing business with this company/person.

If you have any questions concerning this matter with Pat Necerato and his claims feel free to contact me directly at 607-654-4159 or the garage he said he took it to for a diagnosis Rover Classics in NJ.  We have build over 100 Land Rovers and have communication from him when first received and for a couple months after how very happy he was with his purchase.  He paid for the build on 6/20/17, received it 9/30/17, we were 3 weeks past deadline due to the amount of work he decided he wanted done.

We had a problem with the first engine built for him as with a cylinder sleeve issue which our warranty does NOT cover.  We made him aware to make sure the job was right we would build another engine with also contributed to the 3 week delay.  He has been very aggressive on the phone and at times threatening which has literally scared our receptionsist.  I have had to step in several times to make him aware that though we are absolutely behind customer satisfaction, we will not talerate a hostile customer who has a short fuse and becomes very aggressive if he doesn't hear what he wants to hear.

This gentlemen is stating he has a possible warranty issue after having the vehicle for a 2 weeks shy of a year. He stated he had a diagnosis from a garage that there is a problem and won't forward us the information including the odemeter reading which determines warranty eligability.  It took several attempts to contact the garage to chat with the owner that what they are seeing doesn't make sense to the problems of a missfire on oposite banks of the engine.

He has voided the warranty and we are still trying to assist him. We keep all documentation of all work we do and receipts for parts purchased per the invoice each customer receives for the work done to their vehicle.  We are happy to show correspondence from both sides on this matter. He feels because we won't pay for the towing from NJ to Corning, NY we are a scam and the world should know. He also believes that it is ok to be hostile and threatening if we don't give him the answer he wants to hear. He was not prepared for us to not tolerate his very rude attitude.

I have told him serveral times that he is welcome to bring it to us to review.  He has already taken if for diagnositcs.  The problem he is describing is sounds like a coil pack, which is NOT part of any warranty work.   He feels he should get free towing to our location and since we won't give him free towing we have violoted contract.  Which is listed below.

This is the exerpt related to warranty work.

This Warranty is for 18,000 miles or 18 months, whichever comes first, on the Drive Train and Brake System. This warranty begins within 3 business days of full project completion or final payment, whichever comes first. Included in this warranty is a 90 Full Electronic Warranty per the terms stated above as well as a 15 day Bumper to Bumper warranty. ALL Manufacture’s suggested service must be performed and documented or warranty is voided. Failure due to Owner/ Driver Negligence will void all existing warranties. Any NON Manufacture’s Recommended Service performed by another shop without written notification and acceptance from DB Business Holdings DBA DB Vintage Auto Sports will void warranty and terminate any liability held by our Shop towards future warranty issues.

Your Land Rover is guaranteed to pass all New York State Safety and Emissions Inspection Laws and Regulations only at time of delivery. In the event that the Warranty is exercised in any way within the terms of this agreement, DB Business Holdings agrees to either travel to the location of the vehicle in Central New Jersey (Monmouth County), or cooperate with a local mechanic who can facilitate a diagnosis on any and all warranty related issues. The repairs will be at the discretion of DB Business Holdings to occur at a local mechanic facility or at DB Business Holdings Location in New York. Pat Necerato will not be responsible for the costs associated with dealing with a local mechanic if the repairs are within the Warranty terms.

Since the diagnostics from Rover Classics is inconsistent with a missfire on both sides of the engine, I have informed Pat that warranty work will need to be done here to ensure proper procedures are done.

Here is our repsonse to his concern:

Pat,

Good Morning!  I am sorry there is a problem with your Discovery.

There are a large number of factors that will cause a misfire with a blinking light.

I am a little confused on the diagnosis of low compression with a possible worn cam lobe.  If a cam lobe is warn the valve will not open therefore keeping the cylinder chamber closed which in turn increases compression.  What is considered “uneven compression numbers” on bank 2.  Uneven compression on bank 2 would give possible misfires on any cylinder that side (2,4,6,8), that has what is considered “out of spec”, but would not explain misfire in Cyl 5 as that is bank 1. Did the facility you took it to give you their test results?  If they didn’t touch anything how did they get compression values without pulling the spark plugs.  There is absolutely no way to do a compression test without pulling the spark plug and inserting the tool into the thread of the spark plug chamber in the cylinder head. If the compression is in the 160 or above range, that would absolutely rule out compression causing a misfire. There would only be a warped head if the vehicle was overheated, and same again I would think there would be more misfires on bank 2 than just Cyl 6. When the heads are installed the are milled to less than .002” which is spec.  So a MAJOR overheating would have had to take place to warp a head enough to have low compression/ misfire problems which again does not explain Cyl 5 on Bank 1.

For us to properly diagnose the engine, your Land Rover will need to be here, and please understand per our warranty the work if needed is to be performed here as well.

So to answer your specific question, you will need to bring your Discovery here so we can evaluate the cause and determine the solution.

His Response:

You are correct in saying that towing is not in the contract. I said I would allow you to come tow the vehicle (which is not in the contract) INSTEAD of coming here to work on it OR you paying a local mechanic to work on it (which IS in the contract). Those are the only two options in our signed contract.

I can’t diagnose the issues but I can get you the readings, odometer, etc. the mechanic’s name is Anthony, his number is (321) 252-7742. Maybe you can call him and get the info you need rather than me trying to get it, with no idea on communicating this. We will just continue to have miscommunication. Maybe you can call them quickly and get the info you need to determine if we even need to bring it in?

Maybe you can suggest an easier fix? If not, then i have no choice but to bring it to you which leaves us with towing cost problems. lmk

I still do not have the diagnostic information or odemeter reading.  I have call that phone number several times, it has a generice VMail greeting and no one has called me back.

Bottom line, we rebuilt his engine (have all documentation and pictures), nearly a year later with a 14 year old vehicle he is having a missfire, the diagnosis he received does not coincide with problem.  He refuses to bring it to us to take a look at.  He admitted to having a major engine part removed part way into owning the vehicle that does NOT fail (so he got scammed by that garage - had intake replaced - NOT a thing with Discoverys), a part bolted to intake (coild pack) if not installed properly will cause missfires on both sides of the engine.  He refuses to acknowledge that as a MAJOR possibility for his problem.  He feels very entitled, and because we will not tow for free, we have scammed him and now makes accustations (AFTER A YEAR OF DRIVING) that we did a horrible job and the world should know.
