The quality of service for our daughter's wedding reception at the Radisson Hotel Lenexa-Overland Park was terrible. And the meal served to our guests was a gross misrepresentation of what we were promised.

The chef at this hotel presented for taste testing a plated entree consisting of a double-lobed 6 ounce chicken breast in butter-herb sauce.

The actual dinner served consisted of a flat small piece of chicken breast, roughly four bites, in a thick white sauce containing what appeared to be chopped mushrooms. The excuse for the portion size was that his vendor sent single-lobed 6 ounce chicken breast, which "just looked like less". And it certainly did! The maid of honor saw the look of dismay on the groom's face and gave him her entree in addition to his own.

The chef's excuse for the sauce substitution was that when serving this particular entree to a banquet sized crowd he must thicken the sauce so it will hold up in the "hot box". Well, he knew the entree was being served to wedding guests when the sample was prepared!!!

In addition, the catering staff incorrectly reported the number of children's plates required. Twelve of the 16 guests less than six years of age waited for their meals until well after their parents had finished because the chef had to prepare them after everyone else had been served. This caused no small amount of unhappiness for the children, their parents, and the bride and groom.

There were several other lapses in quality of service:

a) there were no crackers served with the "cheese and cracker" appetizer display and there were no plates on the appetizer table.

b) the wedding cake was served in a very disorganized fashion and several entire tables were not served; the bride's mother actually started bringing plates of cake to the guests.

c) the tables were cleared of flatware leaving no forks or other utensils for eating the cake.

d) the requested high chairs and boosters seats were not at hand when the guests were seated and children had to wait for them to be brought in.

I would never recommend this banquet facility for a wedding reception or any other event.

I currently work at the Radisson.

I have to say that in the three years I have been working here I RARELY see any complaints about the banquet staff or how we handle group functions. I have personally served in that department on a number of weddings, and I can tell you that this type of experience is not common at all. I don't suggest it did not happen, but I do argue that it is rare.

Personally I think this is a profit-driven franchise in a customer service-driven industry. The owner of this company, one Steven Craig out of his home office in Lawrence Kansas, Is the most ruthless and cheap individual on the planet. He maintains a hanger for his personal aircraft about a thousand fold more carefully than he does this hotel. I wont go into it too much (I really should write an article about it), but there are about 100 reasons why one should avoid this hotel, some of them impact the public health to a staggering degree. But in meager defense, our banquet staff is pretty much on the ball.

Still, stay away, if you know whats best for you

Yikes!!! I am not familiar with this company and have had no dealings with them but from your report, it sounds like things were really inefficent and whoever "paid the catering tab" deserves some pro-rated refund! They deserve, at the least, a 50 percent refund, if not more! Thats just my opinion.
