I'm so sorry I bought a Rainsoft Water System.

My system 3 years and a few months old. The expense was the same as most others you'll read about, $6000.00.

The system was amazing for the first year. Then one day, out of the blue, a couple of service guys showed up at my house to do annual PM. They commented that the timers were old models and went about changing out several parts. They charged me ~$100 when I was sure it was warranty work (but I paid anyways).

Six months later the water holding tank (large 200 gallons, i think) starting leaking from the coller at the top connection (an irreparable type thing) but when i called for service, the discovery people told me I had to pay for it. I challanged and did not have to pay anything in the end, and the tank was replaced.

A few months later it stops using bleach (that tank is 35 gallons and you have to keep it full by adding bleach and water yourself). In short I made seven service calls in seven months, and dispite my description and taking the time to meet the service guy, they made no real attempt to solve the problem. They made me call every month and that is just plain wrong.

Today I began the cycle of calling again, the exchange resulted in my getting upset and the service manager too. I have no confidence that they will repair it, but I have to make this last try before i ditch it in disgust.

My opinion is this: the sytem is a money pit. Discovery will do everything they can to not invest in the health of the equipment until the warranty expires. They will have you pay (if you are fool enough) for the warranty work they do, and if the problem is not fixed, you have to call within 30 days or you will pay again. You buy it as a warrantied system, but as i did, you will find out whatever part you need fixed is not a warranty part.

Even if I don't try to add up the annual PM expense and a few other dollars Iv'e got in it, the original expense amounts to $166 a month for good water. So, between the expense and the aggravation of having to play 'make us fix it', the system is not worth the investment and Discovery Marketing is in the grab-the-money-and-run business.

Oops, now sucking three-months of bleach every seven days! Figures!!

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

01/03/2005 Glad I haven't paid that $60 labor charge for the repairs that were made to my system. I got my wish, they finally got it using the bleach, thing is, it sucked down 35 gallons of bleach-water in 7 days, and now the water supply is full of air bubbles too.

Its takes about three months to use this much bleach-water. I refilled the tank the wednesday following the repair visit. It was completely empty. Wow. Now our showers, dish and laundry washing, and drinking water, by my calcualations, have 12 times the needed amount of chlorination. The water is slipery and loaded with air bubbles too! I filled a glass with tap-water from the kitchen sink, held it up, and watched as the air bubbles rise to the top like champaign. Its alway something with these people.

As it happens, a rep from Rainsoft called our house thrusday night to remind us, and schedule, our annual system PM. I explained the water problem, so the rep says no problem, they will fix it while they are here doing PM, and the PM cost is $100. They even called back on Friday to confirm a (by) 2:00 pm visit. Then they called back to change the time to before 3:00 pm, but didn't show up at all.

I'll continue to update this complaint for yall, so you can get a feel of a real experience with Rainsoft/Discovery Marketing in Florida.

Fixed - Bout Time! - But pay how much?

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

I posted my report in disgust after learning i would have to pay for repairs for an issue that i felt had gone on too long.

The service tech was to visit my home and repair the problem yesterday 12/21/2004. I was not contacted by the service department at all during the day, so i checked my messages on my home phone and there was one. The message said to call and reschedule the service call because i was not home when the tech arrived. Well, i called to find why i needed to be home, they don't need my help, i didn't need to be home for the other service calls, they just need to fix the system. I was told i needed to pay, and the base amount was $89 (and that only pays for the first half hour of serice), but the actual payment amount was unknown until the work was complete. Dejected, i argued with the service manager for a half hour. That conversation ended with my part of the expense being labor only. This was 3:00 pm. The service manager then handed my back to the dispatch lady to reschedule the for next tuesday.

So, i get home to find a bill stuck in the door for $203, detailing parts, service call charge, labor, gas expense, and taxes. Turns out the service guy did the work from 1:00 to 2:30 pm in spite of the phone message. I checked my system, and sure enough, it appears to be repaired. The bill says to call with my credit card number.

So, this morning i'm going to fax them a note, asking them to reduce my balance due to $60, the labor amount detailed in the bill, per my agreement with the service manager. I'll post the results here as soon as i can.
