Used this company to get my refund last year - needed some cash in a pinch to pay some moving expenses so I figured I will sacrifice what would be about $150 of the refund in order to get it in 2-3 days vs. 2-3 weeks with IRS as the company promised. Waited 2,3,4..5 days - nothing... no communication, no deposit.. answer.. emailed and got a response saying that IRS indicated that there might be some problems with owed taxes and that rapid deposit service loan, for which I paid, was not going to happen!
Called IRS directly and they informed me that there appeared to be no problems with my return, as there should not have been by all means, and that there really isnt an indicator available that early to say that there might be. Emailed company again but all they said was that their bank was unable to approve the "loan" prior to deposit and that I'm out of luck. Lo' and behold, 2 and a half week later I get the full refund by IRS but through Rapid Tax intermediary with minus the "fee" charged me of about $150...

Damage Resulting
So basically I got my full refund by IRS without any problems in the same amount of time I would have gotten it by efiling 1040EZ for FREE, but minus the bogus "fees" this service charged me for filing. When I emailed to complain (emails are answered through a "noreply" email address and cannot be followed up so every time you have to re-explain everything) I was told that because I did not get the loan they waived some processing fee of like $25 or so... Absolutely ridiculous!! If you did not provide service you promised you should NOT charge someone for it. I would not recommend this service to ANYONE! Absolute Scam - I would love to inquire about the actual amount of people who get approved for this rapid "loan" especially since there was NO reason I did not get approved as have no backtaxes of any kind, or owe the government any funds.

We Are Tax Professionals, Not a Bank

First of all, nothing is truly free. It costs millions to develop a tax software application whereby a taxpayer can quickly and easily file a tax return online via step by step guidance. It also costs us money to hire tax professionals so that our customers can receive tax advice, live chat, email, and phone support at no additional cost.  Some companies do offer a free version of their software (as we do) but, ultimately, you usually pay something, especially if you need tax advice or need to file a state return.

With regard to your negative experience with your requested 1-2 day refund loan, we do not have any influence over the bank lending criteria. The bank product is offered through our affiliated bank, not by us, a fact clearly stated in the contract which you have agreed to. Therefore, based upon your credit history, the bank may not approve your loan, a matter upon which we have no control. If you are not approved for the RAL, you will still receive your refund but in the normal time (8-15 days). However, your bank fees are reduced to ~$50. That was stipulated in the contract between you and the bank. With the RAL, we were simply offering a bank product that many customers demanded and appreciated at the time.

Due to tighter lending criteria, banks are no longer offering this high risk loan product. To an extent, it's really a relief for us as we no longer receive any more unfair and exaggerated complaints related to this issue. We can now focus on what really matters, helping our customers through the arduous tax filing process and providing an exceptional tax service.
