I took my computer to Recovering Computers by Sparky back at the end of March 2016, he put in a new hard drive, re-installed Windows 7, Windows Office and Microsoft Essentials, however my DVD/CD player was not working.  It was working fine when I took it in.  I kept getting an error message that the drivers were not installed.  I called Sparky he remembered me and wamted me to allow him remote access to my computer which I did.  He could not fix the problem and told me to bring it in he would fix it for free.  I took it in on July 1, 2016.  It was working fine, not even going slow.  Just the DVD/CD problem.  He booted up the computer when we got there and ask me about an Icon.  I told him the Icon appeared when he had me allow him remote access.  He was suppose to be fixing the DVD/CD, but came out several minutes later saying my computer would not boot up and that Microsoft Recovery was trying to fix the problem.  We were there three hours while this program was suppose to be running.  I noticed one of his computers in the front office had been scanned for virus' and had a Trojan.  He kept going back and forth between that computer and my computer. Finally he ran us off as it was close to closing time and he wanted to close early so he could go get his new truck. I took my computer and me and my Mom left.  Any way my computer is completely dead. Nothing.  Windows will not boot up.  It has two messages.  First, that if a camera or music player has been installed, remove it and reboot the computer, second message says there is no operating system to be found.  As I said my computer was fine before except the DVD/CD problem and my hard drive he installed in March was still in warranty.  I called and left a message to that effect and ask him to call me.  He called on July 2, 2016 and said my computer had a virus and it was my fault and the warranty did not apply.  I filed a complaint with the BBB.  He told them he had never heard of me that we were not customers, so I emailed the original invoice to them and wrote negative reviews on every place I could Facebook, Yelp, YP and so on.  When the BBB contacted him proving I was a customer and told him of the  invoice.  He said that I destroyed my own computer, that I was a vindictive woman and was no longer welcome in his store.  I have proof that computer was working fine, my Mom and a friend .saw it working fine.  I have proof of the phone calls.  But I don't know what else to do.  I am handicap with End Stage Lung disease and on oxygen, my mom is 80  years old we both live on Social Security which is not much.  He took advantage.  I found others he has done the same on Yelp and one on his Facebook.  His ratings are bogus.  Can you help me?  How do I prove this?  I sent the computer to be fixed by someone I trust in Texas they are going to try and find out exactly what happened and when it happened.  Do I have any recourse on this are do people like this just get by with things? I depend on the computer as I am basically home bound I want a refund for the full amount of the invoice for installing the hard drive as he destroyed it.  Can I file charges for destruction of personal property and attempted fraud.  He tried to make me believe something was wrong with the computer so he could charge me more money and when he realized I was not going to leave the computer with him he destroyed it.  That is my take on it also my Mother's take on it.

Dave Harrington is petty, disrespectful, and unkind.

AUTHOR: Baroque - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, October 09, 2016

While I would like to Give Dave Harrington, Owner of RCBS a couple of stars, I'm afraid I cannot.  I've know Dave for a little over a year and he has a nasty habit of being petty, disrespectful and unkind when he does not get what he wants.  My experience with Dave Harrington is that everything I have read in the 1 star reviews is true, and that Dave in fact is the one guilty of the disrespectful behaviors he repeatedly accuses others of.

Dave's reputation within the recovery community is that unless you have a simple software installation Dave can't handle it.  I just built a new system and was having a difficult time installing windows OS, so I took it to Dave the self proclaimed Windows Pro.  After three days I had to leave on a business trip.  Dave stated he would call when he had an update.  I left Dave alone for the entire week, only contacting him the night before I returned.

Two days later I walked into RCBS with the tablet I bought for the business trip which had died on the third day eating all my research, to drop it off to be repaired.  Dave's greeting was the usual rude "why are you here, I'm really busy, I said it would be ready tomorrow."  I informed Dave that I was dropping off the tablet and attempted to leave three times while Dave kept showing me things or having me show him how to select the optional bio's for the motherboard or the CMOS reset button on the IOS panel, while he had taken most of my tower apart to pull the CMOS battery to reset the Bio's. All the while he stated three or four times that it would be ready tomorrow, he was busy and wants me to leave.  Dave complained that he should charge me all the time it took the Windows Pro to figure out that he needed to install windows 10 on the hard drive, and that somehow it was my fault.  Dave installed the version of 10 he wanted without asking me.

Now Dave's idea of being "really" busy is building secondhand laptops, while he incessantly huffs form his massive vapor tank and consuming ridiculous amounts of energy drinks, becoming agitated and aggressive.  Later that night I texted Dave asking him what time tomorrow he wanted me to pick up the computer, knowing he would be "busy" and I did not want to suffer showing up unannounced.  This was Dave's response, after telling me some four times it would be ready tomorrow.

"I will call you when its done, ok? Do you understand that I will call you real soon, ok, so please let met call you when its done, no more questions. You will be the first to know when its done,ok?"  This is the nicest he's been.

It has become painfully obvious that Dave makes poor scheduling decisions, then when he corners himself comes out rude disrespectful and unkind, blaming the customers for asking him questions.  Sparky claims he studied a B.S. in Business Management, yet cannot figure out that he's in the question answering business, LOFL.  Hello Dave, try ignoring them.   I was told it was ready one full day later.  When I arrived to pick it up Dave was gone, his helper showed me where it was with a bill three times what Dave had quoted.

Now this is where I've heard repeated complaints, at least 8 different people, that Dave Harrington does not call and explain that it will cost more or seek approval for parts or additional time.  Moreover after an entire week goes by with no promised update from Dave, the customer calls to receive an ear full of how you’re bothering him, in my case Dave states "It took me 4 fours to figure it out."  He needed an entire week for those 4 hours, boy that really rough.

Here is the s*y part.  After returning home with my computer, hooking it up, I turned it on, and spent the next 3 hours fixing everything he screwed up pulling the CMOS battery, while the reset button was ear marked in the instillation manual I provided Dave.  I had to reinstall the Quad channel ram; he put in the wrong slots, fix the bio's setup, and install the drivers for the graphic cards.  All the while, the computer STUNK of perfumed nicotine for hours; I hope you’re not sensitive to it like I am, Asthma!!

Here is the most important part of this review, while in the program registry logs; the computer shows that Dave did ABSOLUTELY nothing to the computer after that rude response.  Apparently Dave sat on the finished computer out of spite.

As payment I had earlier traded Dave an entire gaming computer valued at over 500.00, as referenced on ebay, for 250.00 in the attempt to do a brother a solid, and yet Dave tried to say that was for the tablet I bought.  Dave is selling these for 150.00, which on Ebay are valued at $80.00

Dave Harrington will show absolutely no respect for you or your property.  Windows was finally installed and Dave made a smokin deal, literally.  Next you will see a 5 star review from one of Dave's buddies to manipulate his approval rating.

ERROR MESSAGE ON COMPUTER

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2016

When I got the computer back when I tried to boot it up.  There were two error messages.  One If there had been a camera or music player installed recently, uninstall and reboot comuter.  Well he had just installed a new DVD/CD player so that would cover that.  He caused the problem.  Second, message - No Operating System Found.  Don't know what caused that.  As I stress before the computer booted up fine when we first got there before he installed the DVD/CD player.

MAJOR LIAR

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2016

This is addition to my original answer.  I never said anything about throwing my computer in the garbage.  I can't afford a new one who would I do that. This guy is a piece of work. He thought he could trick me into spending more money to fix a problem that did not exist and when he saw that was not going to happen he made sure I really did have a problem.  I have witnesses that my computer was fine only an hour before arriving at his shop.

STORE OWNER IS LIAR AND RIP OFF

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2016

The computer booted up when we first got there, he came out and ask me about an Icon that was on my desk top.  The computer was working perfect except the DVD/CD player before going to the shop that day.  He has lied to the BBB twice.  Once saying I was not a customer of his, and second that I did not try to work things out before filing a BBB complaint. This guy is a rip off and a liar.  He is in the perfect business to do both as it is hard to prove .  I stand behind my statements and will not take down the complaint.

Old lady is Scamming computer store owner

AUTHOR: sparkyrcbs - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2016

This lady came into my store with her computer stating the DVD didnt play movies, so I agreed to put in another dvd player in her laptop for free at no cost, I did that and when I went to start computer up it never booted up it only went to start-up repair, I tried for over three hours at no charge to get it to repair with the Original windows disk but to no avail, I then informed customer that she might have contracted a virus that caused a Windows start-up problem and she said that she was going to have her son fix it or she was going to throw it in the Garbage. She took the Computer and left. This Lady is trying to scam Recovering Computers for the Price of her Computer. Her computer was working perfectly when we recently fixed it and she will agree to that, I don't know why this lady is trying to rip us off for something that is completely her FAULT, we are not and have never been responsible for Virus that the END USER receives, we will fix them for a price. As for her complaint, it's completely fradulent and should be removed as she can't prove any of it and I can prove that it was never booting when brought to the repair shop. RCBS willnot reimburse or pay for anything that this lady has, because due to her Negligence, she is at Fault.
