I rented a car in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Oct. 28th, 2010-November 1st, 2010 from Rental Avis. I purchased Insurance from them at $10/day and signed a Loss Damage Waiver. I got a flat tire while driving in Jamaica and when I returned they then tried to tell me that it would cost us because there was a $900 deductible. It was never mentioned that I had a deductible and I thought when purchasing the insurance that I would be covered for all loss and damages as stated in the waiver. They then made an unauthorized charge on my debit card of around $400 for a flat tire. Telling a person of a deductible after the fact is illegal and immoral.

Try to have your bank deal with it...

....long shot..but I was charged $400.00 from a scooter rental shop in France for a broken lock. These charges showed up afther I left France and was back in the states. Now unless this lock was made of some rare precious metal...I was scammed.
The bank looked into it..and I got a portion back. Granted the bank did tell me I would get it all back and I did not...but not much I can do now. Next time I may consider asking if I can deal with cash only. I am sure any party that can profit from this type of "tourist" scam..including the bank..would find it is in THEIR best interest NOT to help with recourse. Makes complete business sense be it as it may a blatant rip off.
I mean what can you do to dispute a charge from a far far away land and the bank essentially supplies the Vaseline required for said screwing?

"Telling a person of a deductible after the fact is illegal and immoral"
That would indeed be shady. What does your contract say? The box that you initialed to accept the LDW coverage should have the basic terms, including any deductible. If it doesn't say anything about a deductible, I think you have good cause to make an issue of this.
High deductibles are fairly common when renting outside the U.S., but I've always seen it disclosed on the contract (although I've never rented from Avis outside the U.S.).
