Residential Voice Mail I was completing a survey on-line and unknowingly signed up for what I thought was a free trial residential voice mail for one month. By e-mail, I was told I'd be charged $16 per month on my phone bill. RIPOFF Boston Massachusetts

While taking a survey where a gift card was offered, I could not move to the next page of the survey until I clicked on one of the choices offered. A free month's trial of residential voice mail was offered.

It was only later in the day, while checking my e-mails, that I read the e-mail from Residential Voice Mail that I would automatically be charged $16 per month for this service and it would be billed to my next phone bill.

I typed in the web address of Rip-off Report to cancel this service and was surprsed to arrive there, thinking I would get something directly associated with Residential Voice Mail. So I'm taking time here to report this questionable "free" offer.
I've also called and left a message at the customer service number of the company, 1-866-851-3357.

Thank you for any help with this matter.

I went to other links I found in a google search (http://www.idtcreative.net/DMI/3.9/index6.php) I found their Corporate information for the main company behind the residentialvoicemail website, who will be the name that shows up on your phone bill as giving you service.

Their cancel section on their site looks more like a way to harvest more phone numbers to slam to me after people follow the link they got in email:

Please Enter Your Telephone Number and Email Address

Telephone Number

Email Address

I would suggest NOT giving them your phone number. They won't have it if they have only emailed you, but they will if you try to cancel using this method. Then they just match up the phone number with the email they sent you and it all will look legit. I believe that is how they are getting the numbers and then charging these unwanted fees for their unrequested service each month.

You were not given the full cost of this service either. Here is what their website says:

Pricing

After your first FREE 30 DAYS of service, the low monthly fee of only $19.95 will automatically be billed on your local telephone bill.

In order to program and activate your service, and to ensure proper message delivery, there is also a one-time non-refundable set-up fee of only $24.95 which should appear on your next local telephone company bill in the Miscellaneous Charges section under Residential Voice Mail.
