On a recent trip to Florida with some friends, my party of four stopped at a Denny's restaurant for lunch. The restaurant was located at 5051 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissemmee.

The overall appearance of the place did not look like the Denny's we have known in the past. Many open tables were covered with dirty dishes, food on the floor, some tables were just plain dirty. We thought it was a bit strange when the waitress took our order on the back of a paper napkin. While waiting for our order to arrive, I went to the restroom. This place could only be described as disgusting. There was water and toilet paper on the floor, excrement on the toilet and sink. My friend's wife tried to use the ladies restroom and found it so bad that she could not, equally disgusting. We wanted to leave and should have at this point.

After a considerable wait, part of our orders arrived. My friend and I had ordered a sandwich that according to the Denny's menu comes with a choice of coleslaw or french fry's. Neither sandwich had the accompaniment. I called the waitress and asked about the lack of the accompaniments on our order. At this she said, Oh, you want them? I said that we did since we were paying for them.

At least fifteen minutes went by before my french fry's arrived and my friend never did get his. There was no offer to refill our drinks. I asked for more coffee and it took several minutes. It was just not the Denny's we have seen at other locations. We are not used to hearing employee's shouting across the room to each other. We also noticed that we were not the only ones getting short changed. Other people were leaving in frustration after waiting for someone to take their order and I assume equally disgusted with the condition of the restrooms.

I fully realize that sometimes there are problems in this type of business, very busy times, employee problems, equipment breakdowns, etc. Some of the problems we encountered may have been with the employee but the restaurant was surely not that busy. Also, despite the above named problems, there is no excuse for the filthy restrooms. That left us very upset and concerned.

I voiced my concerns to the Denny's Guest Assurance headquarters over a month ago and asked for an explanation. So far I have heard nothing. Apparently they don't care about their customers.

that's Denny's for ya....

I've eaten at Denny's for over 30 years. I've had 'interesting' experiences there, but no truly horrible ones. The quality of their food has gone downhill drastically the last five years or so.

The thing about Denny is: they've also been a bit differant than most places. Countless times over the 30 years, we'd eat there, order breakfast with pancakes and they'd bring out Mayo or mustard instead of syrup. That's happened at least 100x. We'd make a game of it, 'what will they bring this time????'.

For the most part, the staff is usually friendly.
To date, I've eatne at about 25 differant Denny's in 3 differant states. It's always been the same, just a bit off.

The pay they recieve is the pay they recieve.

Good workers make more than "minimum wage". It's a fact. The only people making MW are people starting out in the business world, and people who lack the needed skills to succeed.

Anyone making MW after 6 months, is just plain stupid...PERIOD! At this point, you are being overpaid.

In reality, the US Constitution does not allow the Federal Government to dictate wages and prices for privately owned enterprises. The MW should be $0.00. Many jobs don't even have to abide by the arbitrary, UNCONSTITUTIONAL wage control called "minimum wage". The waitress at Denny's is one of them.

A rare occurrence. ..I'm just wondering who's fault this really was

AUTHOR: Brianna - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 17, 2003

As a new employee of Dennys and also a regular of each Dennys in my city, I am sorry you had to go through this.

Did you ask for a manager? Or did you just leave? I'm just wondering who's fault this really was, whether or not Management was not doing their job or if the servers were there alone and taking advantage of it by airing dirty laundry with eachother and "taking a break" from their duties.

Have you returned to this Denny's to see if any improvements have been made? Did you call Corporate and complain? I would have.

It's restaurants that mess it up for the chains in other states and cities. People generalize that if one is bad, they all are...simply not always the case.

Again, I apologize. I would have been very upset at this whole instance.
