Water heater went out on Sunday morning, 5 days shy of warranty expiration, called homebuilder, told to call plumber contracted for new homes, told to call rheem warranty dept., given the run around, faxed proof of warranty, spent 30 minutes on hold monday morning, switched around to many different depts., finally given a list of plumbers for warranty work, warranty only covers tank, had to pay 495.00 for installation of new heater, plus $75.00 "upcharge" for a government mandated change in the way the heaters are made,

warranty is not worth the piece of paper it is printed on, rheem warranty customer service people are no good for anything, not helpful and rude, finally 2 1/2 days after the hot water heater went out (and $570.00 out-of-pocket!) i have a new rheem hot water heater, rheem is CRAP!!

by the way ACE, everthing i said is true. This is called rip-off report, Can you really blame me for feeling ripped off!?    And judging from the other reports on Rheem I am not the only one who feels this way.

a hot water heater should not go out in only 6 years, not if it is worth a crap, i understand what you are saying about the rules and regs concerning the tanks and installation, but simply saying, "read your warranty" is not helpful to anybody, you should understand the frustration of having no hot water on a cold February day and on a Sunday and trying to get it replaced, esp. when they DID give me the runaround and were very rude, the rudeness was uncalled for and the "customer service" merely laughable.   The warranty IS  crap and Rheem sucks!! so, until you have been thru that and having to pay out the nose for a new one, you no nothing of the frustration. Next time i have a problem may i consult you to explain the warrant to me? You know that they are written in such legalese so that the average consumer really doesn't know what they are getting.

READ YOUR WARRANTY

I JUST FOUND THIS POST AND MUST GIVE SOME TRUE INFORMATION.
I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH ALL MAKES, MODELS AND SIZES OF WATER HEATERS FOR OVER 35 YEARS. NOT ONE COMPANY OR ANY WATER HEATER HAS A COMPLETE WARRANTY FOR THE STATED LIFE OF THE TANKS WARRANTY. IF IT IS A 6 YEAR TANK WARRANTY IT IS 1 YEAR ON EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE INSTALL EVEN IF YOU INSTALLED IT YOURSELF. IF IT IS A 9 OR 12 YEAR TANK WARRANTY IT IS ONLY 1 YEAR ON EVERYTHING THEN THE BALANCE IS ON THE TANK ONLY, NOT THE REPLACEMENT INSTALL COSTS.
IF WHEN THE YEAR IS UP AND THERE IS A LEAKER THAN THE CUSTOMER CAN RETURN THE TANK FOR A REPLACEMENT AFTER CALLING THE MFG AND GETTING A CASE NUMBER.
IF YOU OPT FOR AN INSTALL FROM THE SUPPLIER THAN THE NEW INSTALL MUST BE DONE TO THE CURRENT EXISTING CODE. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS AND THE UNIT IS NOT UP TO CODE THE INSTALLER IS SCREWED. HE CAN LOSE HIS LICENSE AND EVEN HIS INSURANCE COVERAGE. THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THIS IS SEARS WITH THEIR MA POLICEYS. THEY ARE TOO CONVOLUTED TO EXPLAIN HERE..
SEARS IS THE WORST OF THE BUNCH, HOWEVER, MY DEALING WITH RUDD RHEEM, HOTPOINT ARE POSITIVE. THEY MAKE ALL THE TANKS FOR H/DEPOT. STATE WATER HEATER MAKES SEARS AND WHIRLPOOL MAKES LOWES. BRADFORD WHITE IS ALSO A VERY GOOD TANK.
HOPE THIS HELPS SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.
