Ricky Wallis Stan Wakeman Dynamic Duo Scam Artists! Friday Harbor WA

We have been working on a house renovation for a year now. We have had nothing but trouble when it comes to hiring workers on San Juan Island. We used to live on Orcas and this has become a pathetic joke finding decent trustworthy help. They either have a criminal background, drinking issues or just never show up or flake out because it's work.

We were given the name of Ricky Wallis and his partner dentist Stan Wakeman. We thought maybe we have a chance here with a local dentist but a bit concerning that if a dentist was really that good, then why is he moonlighting doing tile work. During Covid and fighting manufacturing issues, all our supplies are like gold to us. We can't afford to lose supplies! Most supplies took months to get and we wanted to make sure we had someone who knew how to do tile work well.

The last guy we had he started to work on a shower pan and there were issues with him not really seeming confident with his work. The tile work was never really happening well after the shower pan was built, it was a mess. After he complained about missing tile parts off of his tile saw, we were really concerned he did not have the proper tools to do the work well. After a month we knew this guy had to go!

We had no idea how the whole shower pan was done all wrong by the first guy. Our hope was, with an experienced tile person they would certainly see if it needed to be done all over again. Ricky and Stan started the job, knowing full well what they were getting into and never told us how bad things were. They just went ahead and created additional problems. We could see this is not how a shower is supposed to look. When we addressed our concerns they just blamed the first guy. We kept telling them we want to make it better and not worse!

As we saw wavy uneven floor tile and shoddy workmanship, we really expressed our dislike on the way things were looking. They even put tile on the wall with a 1 inch gap and said that's how it needs to be because the wall was uneven. Do they really think that is acceptable. Does the dentist say to his client, sorry I could not save your tooth because I did not feel like being a dentist today. I mean give me a break here...

We all agreed the tile on the shower floor pan needed to come out. Certainly the one tile on the wall with a 1 inch gap gets removed so we can make it flush to the wall. We did the work ourselves as homeowners to tear things up on the floor tile, contain the mess and be ready for them to do the job right. We were upset to be losing expensive materials but knew we had to do things correctly. The guys came back and decided to do more tear out. They even cut out part of our expenisve water proof membrane and then started creating additional damage that now needs to be further corrected.

We feel very ripped off as we paid a deposit. They used tools on the site like a saw to cut additional cement board, never telling my husband that his saw would be used in this manner. Additional tools they borrowed were used and abused and supplies were wasted like they were nothing. No respect or consideration. I agree with my husband if they are going to act like they are in the trade, they should come with their own basic supplies that any handyman should have. Not do this to a homeowner.

Speaking of being licensed, I guess they are not. Yes, we are filing a complaint with the State as this really takes away from the ones who care to be professionals and do quality work.

We just have not found them yet and our neighbors complain about this problem too. My husband called to get a rundown of where things were left and they basically are walking off the job and they wanted another $1,000. I would say these guys are rip off scammers and I would pass on them working on your home. They had it in their heads they could fool us into paying them more for nothing. Disaster is all we can say!
