I have had the most horrible experience with these companies (Family Motors/RK Chevrolet).  The two companies are one company, so it appears, working together.  You may buy the car from Family Motors but RK Chevrolet owns it.  I purchased a car from Family Motors; they said they pulled my credit report.  They lied.  They lock in other fees that you may not need (i.e., GAP, service contract).  Beware!  These salespersons are crafty with one goal in mind - to sell you their cars that may have undisclosed mechanical problems and some cars have broken down slightly after the warranty ends.  So, you pay a high price for the car, not even comparable to the book value, the car breaks down a little after the warranty ends then you are left to pay to have it fixed.  The quality of the car I bought was shabby.  I have heard other and similar stories about these companies.  If you or anyone you know that may be filing a lawsuit against these companies please respond.  I know of at least ten to fifteen people that have been wronged by these companies because of their deceptive, manipulative, and crafty practices in selling you a car.  It would be nice to see someone come forward and file a class action suit against them, if possible.

If you must purchase from them be careful of a few things:

If you go to one of their lots (especially Family Motors) they may tell you that they are going to pull your credit report.  Ask for proof that they did indeed pull the report.

Ask for the carfax on the car.  This helps you to check for accidents, repossessions, and major problems with the car.

If you live in Virginia the GAP insurance is not mandatory (to my understanding); although, they may tell you that it is.  They make money on everything they sell you.  It appears that they are double dipping.  They sell you the car, then they sell you other stuff that you may not be able to use, especially when they sell the car note to another company.  Also be very careful with purchasing from Family Motors because the salespersons tell you that if you purchase from them you can build your credit.  This is a lie.  It has been my experience as well as others that they don't report it to the credit bureaus.  They report it after about three years after you have paid for the car in full.  That is not building credit.

Definitely check the bluebook value before purchasing from them.  They make money on a car over and over again by charging 3 or more times over the value of the car.  For example, if the value of a car is actually $2,000 they could charge you $6,000, $7,000 or more for that $2,000 car that potentially may have undisclosed problems.  They can be very tricky, crafty and deceptive about everything they do.

Keep all of your receipts.  The orange boot does not come with your car; but, they have been known to put boots on people's cars even when they have paid.

Beware!  They have been known for years to take advantage of people.  I wished someone would have told me about their deceptive and manipulative practices before I purchased a car from them.

Keep Spreading the Word. They have done this (SCAMMED) to others.

AUTHOR: EJ - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 24, 2011

Justice,

Thank you for posting this.  I had a bad experience too with Family Motors/RK Chevrolet.  The word is around town that they, RK Chevrolet/Family Motors, have done this to many people for years; they have a bad reputation around town.  Somebody should start a class action suit.  I bet a lot of people will come forth if it is advertised in the newspaper or on tv.  They do not have a good reputation around town.  Keep spreading the word.  Yes, you're right.  They tell people they are pulling their credit report and they don't.  They tell you that you are able to build credit by buying a car from them.  But, what they don't tell you is that they don't actually report it monthly.  They lead you to believe they report it monthly but they don't.   You can only build credit when you are making installments each month and it is reported each month.  I have heard around town that many people have been scammed by Family Motors/RK Chevrolet for years.  Don't trust any of them...especially the guy that responded to your post.  Your experience is not the first one.  They have done this to others.

MY WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS VERY PLEASANT

AUTHOR: Mvaldez - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 22, 2011

I would absolutely recommend RK has a place to shop.  The whole experience was very plesant.  I couldn't have asked for a better salesperson.  He was amazing.  Ron told us that he wasn't going to push us into something that we couldn't afford, or the payments would be too high.  He listened to us, and then worked with us to find the right car.  Everyone was very accommodating, and just pleasant to work with.  I'm extremely happy with the Kia.  The car did perfect on two trips.

Guests In My Living Room Don't Get SCAMMED With a BOGUS Fee!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 21, 2011

This dealership wants to be so-o-o-o helpful, right?  They want to show you they are so-o-o honest???

Their internet site shows they will hit you up for a $600 BOGUS, ADD-ON, PHONEY FEE.  The BOGUS FEE congame is a MAINSTAY within the Sleazy American Car Business.  It works likes this:  The slime of the car business don't have the honesty or integrity to advertise the REAL PRICE of the car.  So they advertise a FAKE PRICE which they WILL NOT sell the car for and make up the difference with an official sounding but VERY BOGUS phoney fee.  In the case of this operation, they call it a "processing fee".  All of this PHONEY FEE goes to the dealer and you don't get the car unless you agree to the BOGUS FEE.  As such, the BOGUS FEE is part of the price of the car.  They could have just as easily included $600 in the figure they claim is the price of the car, but these types have ZERO INTEGRITY to do that.  They would rather DECEIVE you as to the price of the car.  No wonder you had problems with these people.  They clearly demonstrate their level of honesty.

Slime of this type usually try to defend themselves by claiming they disclose all fees.  However, a rapist discloses his intent before the act.

No other segment of retail pulls this con-game like the Sleazy American Car Business.  When was the last time you paid a "processing fee" at McDonalds or Walmart?

Keep spreading the word about what they have done to you.  Tell everybody about their use of bogus, add-on phoney fees.  You can very easily print up one page signs and post them anywhere you go to alert people as to the con-games they have perpetrated upon you.

Its obvious, they aren't here to help you, they aren't your friends and they could care less about you.  They SCAMMED you.  They want to shut you up.  They don't want people educating you about how they SCAMMED you.
