After taking out family dog to Mario Vezza for 14 years, we finally had to say goodbye to her. To say this was the hardest decision of my life would be an understatement. However, it could've been easier if we had a true veterinarian that care about our pet, our pet's well being, and our family's thoughts and feelings.

He treated our dog well until the later years in her life, with not much going wrong in her youth. As her age climbed, and her health naturally declined, we began notice interesting symptoms at the age of 12 to 13. More frequent urination. Constant drinking, and lots of water.

Within the span of a year, twice we found our dog in an odd state of what we originally assumed out of fear was a stroke or seizure. We found our beloved friend huddled in a corner, shaking nonstop, unable to get up or walk. Both times, we rushed her to Vezza as soon as we could, and both times Vezza INSISTED the dog ate something toxic, and pushed the blame on us (stop giving her food, watch what she eats, clean up your garbage, keep a closer eye on her on walks.) Each time he flushed out her system, and she recovered to come home. However, for a year, she continued to urinate and drink far more frequently.

Any questions regarding these symptoms to Vezza, or his "manager" Ashley, were met with follow up questions, and quick dismissals as perfectly fine. This last instance occurred summer of 2015.

Fast forward to summer of 2016, our furry friend began urinating in the house, and STOPPED EATING. We asked Vezza, who told us to simply put a potato in her food so she'll want to eat it. This worked for maybe 4 days. As she was now 13, we were concerned of incontinence becoming an issue. We scheduled an appointment, Vezza gave her a look over and determined the issue to be a bladder infection. We put her on antibiotics and brought her home happy, thinking she would recover.

We were wrong. The NEXT DAY, our dog had ANOTHER incredibly similar episode. Shaking in the corner, could not walk, could not use the restoom. We rushed her to Vezza. Again, we were given the excuse that she ate something and we need to take better care. We notice mushrooms on our front lawn, he immediately blamed the mushrooms, looking for any scapegoat.

We left our dog in his care for about four days, as he attempted to flush our her system and monitor her progression. At one point, Vezza claimed our dog vomited a paper towel, he blamed the paper towel and any chemicals it had - he told us to watch what we throw out and pick up our garbage, again shifting the blame and looking for ANY scapegoat. After a while, she was not eating and began labored breathing -we knew the decision had to be made. We had to say goodbye to our life long friend.

It wasn't until the dust fully settled that we could step back and look at how poorly handled this situation was. Vezza essentially ignored an entire medical history, he ignored our attention to specific symptoms, he ignored other incidents he previously encountered and treated our dog for, and immediately shifted the blame to some "unknown toxin" and us.

For all we know, he very well knew what was going on with our dog and simply kept her hooked up to the IV just to draw out her stay - thus allowing him to charge us more money. He very well knew that second day that our dog would not make it, but he did not tell us this. His status updates would fluctuate, one morning she was eating, the next day she went backwards two steps. We were told during our last visit with her an x-ray would let him see any masses or cancer, but he never even told us he TOOK an x-ray until AFTER she died. And then he STILL charged us for it.

In the end, we do not truly know what brought our friend to the end of her life, but what we do know is that Mario Vezza was clueless, he had no idea what was going on, he didn't look at all the factors, and he cared for more about the paycheck we would get than our dog's life, or our family's feelings. I genuinely hope no family should ever have to go through what we did, and I genuinely feel no family should feel as wrong about their pet's death as we do.

Do yourself a favor, find a vet that knows what he's doing.
