"CANCELLATION POLICY You may cancel this contract at any time prior to midnight of the third business day after the date of the contract. Written notification is required."-Rue contract

What does this mean?

This means that if you decide to not use their material after the 3 days are up, you still are contractually obligated to pay! The only exceptions to the contract are if you decide to go to a traditional school or have a medical condition that will not allow you to work as a nurse. Otherwise, if anything comes up in your life along the way and you decide your money is better spent elsewhere, forget it. You will be sent to collections for the balance of the amount due.

We all know things come up, plans don't work out and for some unforeseen reason you can not continue with the education goals you set. Well that's too bad, because Rue will send you to collections until every penny is collected. We all know a contract is a contract, but this is so inflexible that it might be worth a second or third look before signing your life away! Stop and read the fine print before you sign!

"Rue Education does not refund for any reason other than those stated above. If the Purchasers payments are not current at the time of refund, the refund will be applied to the Purchasers unpaid balance." -Rue Contract

My personal experience with Rue was that I found school by mail was not working for me and I knew I would need to go to a traditional school with real instructors. At this time I don't have the time to attend any type of school and wanted a refund so I could put it towards tuition, books, lab fees etc. Rue said they would refund my money once I started attending school, but I don't know how long it will take for me to be in the position to go, and I don't want my money sitting in Florida waiting for me gaining them interest.

Looking back, I should have read the fine print. I know my money is gone and someone in Florida is using it to buy a new boat or palm tree or something. I just want any other nurses out there who might be thinking about Rue to use extreme caution before signing. If for any reason you may not be able to finish the program, save your money anyway. Rue will sue you for it.

By the way, they threatened to sue me for contacting LPN programs and telling them my story. Nice.

Cancer doesn't stop collection efforts!

You can forget the medical condition forgiving the debt.  I cancelled on the second day after I signed the contract after being diagnosed with breast cancer (3rd stage) and I was told that it didn't matter, I was still obligated to make my monthly payments.  Its been 4 years and I'm still battling this debt on my credit report and they are still calling trying to collect!!!   I just finished chemo and radiation on my second time having a recurrence of breast ca.... They do not care about anything but the money.  I also never received any books, calls, or any assistance with counselors or ANYTHING accept a huge debt on my credit report that says unpaid loan and I never received any MONEY EVER!!!!

What is your current Status with Rue

I too got scammed and so has a few of my other friends. Some paid and some like me said Scr*w em because they were taking advantage of us. If you paid I am sorry and wish you luck.

I decided that I would go directly to excelsior, don't let RUE's scam discourage you from taking advantage of an excellent opportunity to get your degree. I was pissed off and gave up.

After 2.5 yrs it seemed like I started meeting people that did it the right way through the Excelsior(Regents)college and they made it seem like a very good experience.  I met 2 RT supervisors from SC that completed the program directly through the school and had no problems or anything bad to say other than stay away from RUE and the other programs that were out there. I also met around this time a Med-Surg nurse from TX that did the program. I also became aware of the head of the surgical services at a large facility in NC I worked at had got her start with the Regents(Excelsior)ADN.

I started working on the nursing exams in Aug 09 and have completed all but the last 3 of the exams and should be done this Spring. I saved money, used their in house payment plan, their own practice exams, I am very happy with my experience so far.

Also if you or anyone you know has had RUE take them to collections; watch your credit report very closely and look to see if they are illegally re-aging the collection account. What this effectively does is make it seem like every month like you just went into collections with them even if the account is years old. This drops your credit score and effectively makes your worst then what it really is for longer than it needs to be.

I started a thread in the FICO forum if you are experiencing these issues also. just search for Rue Education Charge Off.

Good luck I feel you pain too but don't give up.
