Bought a pre paid phone at Allter.I Asked the girl 6 times if it would work in a certain area, she said yes, no problem. Next week i went back to her (them) and said the phone never worked in that area. She said the phone didnt have a guarantee, because it was a prepaid phone, ( 1 st lie) has a 15 day guarantee). but if id gotten the 2 yr. plan,i could have made/ received calls from the area i asked about ( 2nd. lie) I went back to their phone centers they have in the malls, and complained 18 times that i couldnt make any/ or receive calls in the roaming area ,about 20 miles away.

I was told the reason was because i never had $8.00 or more worth of minutes( 3rd lie) than i was told id have to have a FULL battery at all times( 4th lie)not true. There were times i told them that when id try to make a call it woulnt go thru. They said id have to dial that number TWICE (5 th lie) nobody even informed me of that. I asked to use a loaner phone, just to see if it worked, they said they couldnt let me use a laoner phone( 6th. lie) I saw different mgr's, in different places, and told them of my problem, they could have cared less.

I tried to talk to the mgr. of the alltel store at the OhioValley plaza, in St. clairsville,oh,, she wouldnt even talk to me.She kept sending her answers back to me with one of the people that worked there. I called corporate JOKE) A mrs. Rhonda Moore talked to me and wanted to know what was going on. I told her everything that happened. She seemed like she was concerned ( it was just a front) She had the dist. mgr . call me, his name was Thad Rosenberry( bigger joke) he told me to try a loaner phone to see if that would work, instead of using MY phone.

I went to Wheeling wv. to get the loaner phone, and the lady that gave me the phone there is one of the people that didnt want to help me earlier. I used the phone for a few days and it did the same thing MY phone did. When i returned the phone i was told the reason i couldnt call out of the area is because,,there were NO ALLTEL towers in that area !!! It took them a YEAR to finally tell me that. Why in the heck wasnt i told that the day i bought it? I asked that girl if it would work and she said YES ! LIES.. I called that Mrs, Moore 4 times ( pres. secrertary) she never had the DECENCY to return any of my phone calls.Mrs moore also told me that i PROBABLY had a REBUILT phone ( 7th lie) i wasnt told that when i bought the phone.

I feel they are forcing you into buying a 2/ 3 yr. plan, because i was told if i SIGN a 2 yr plan, i could make receive call out of the area with the SAME phone i have now! I think they LOCK up the roaming areas with the prepaid phones.I asked Mrs. Moore if i could get some kind of a break on a plan for all the inconvenience i had and all the lies i was given,,she said NO WAY .By the way, i broke down one night and had to flag down a motorist beause my ALLTEL phone wouldnt work 22 miles from my house. Im MY opinion, alltel is a rip off company that has a bunch of LIARS working for them. All this phone is to me is a portable pay phone for local calls.

sorry for the hassle, BUT

Prepaid phones do not operate on the same national network that monthly contract phones do. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they simply do not. contract phones work on a national network of both alltel towers and the towers of roaming partners. there are no roaming partners in the prepaid system. you are limited to the alltel towers. the same is true here. about 12 miles away, once you cross the PA line, it goes into a strange double dialing situation. that is because another company is picking up the call, and doesnt let it go through because they dont have a roaming agreement with your service. you can still send and receive text messages, and you can still receive calls. i do not know why this is the case, but it is.

prepaid service also does not have the 15 day service guarantee. it is non refundable. that is part of the reason why you can sign up for prepaid and get a phone for $10. the actual cost of that phone is probably somewhere around $200.

unfortunately, what you were told were not lies. im sorry you did not understand that. look at the prepaid coverage map at alltel.com it is by far not the same as the montly service coverage map. it may look different now, with the verizon merger, i havent looked at it lately, because i am no longer employed by the company.

the fact that they even gave you a loaner phone shows that they were willing to help you, because that is not normal business practice. im sorry that you purchased a phone for use in a non-alltel area. that is the reason they so proudly display the coverage maps, in order to have informed customers.

and again, im sorry you could not get your money refunded. it is just not a refundable charge. you can always try to dial *228 from your phone to update the list of available towers in your area to try to improve signal.
