In March I came into the office and the UPS guy had some packages one I reconized and know I did not ordered so I refused. I was sick that week so I left and went back home. While gone more boxes came in and upon returning to work I found another box from the same company. I asked who had excepted it and it was a new person not nowing any better since we get a lot of boxes from many different place in our office. The company Associated Suppy Company called and asked for payment I told Sharon we did not order the ink cartridges and why would we when we refill our own. At one time we did buy from them until we found out that their product was bad and did not hold up to whatt they said. Sharon Then stated that I personnaly had ordered them in February. She gave me the date and I put her on hold. I then look to see the dates and found I was out with the flu during that time and asked around to see if anybody else had ordered them. I brought Donna into the office and put Sharon, Donna and Mr on speaker phone and told her that it was impossible that I could not have ordered this ink I was out sick the whole week. She then stated that someone in my office must have. Donna hearing this also stated no that was impossible. She said she would then fax aFedexp label so we could send it out with our packages. We said we would. Two weeks later she called to see if we had. We told her we never received a fax from her. She faxed the label and we got the label and put it on the box and a couple days later on April1st Fedexp came by and pickup all the boxes we had for them. Several week went by Sharon called asking if we had sent the package we said yes that the Fedexp guy had cam by and pick all the boxes up. She said okay. Two days later she calls back and talks with Lee and tells Lee we need to write a letter to her company telling her that Fedexp picked up the boxes and then fax it to her. We did this and faxed it. Several days later she calls back again this time saying Fedexp will not except the letter they need a tracking number. I said then give them the tracking number you should have it if you did the paper work all you gave us was a piece of paper to tape on the box. She stated we should have got something from the Fedexp guy. I told her we have never ever received anything from any of the DHL, UPS or Fedexp guys, they come into the office scan the packages with the scanners and leave they do not leave any paper with them. I told her she should have the tracking info it was her paper work. I hung up the phone irritated with her she must think me stupid I have been doing this 17 years I know how this works. The next thing I know she is calling telling me that we need to pay $383.88 for ink cartridges that were lost. I told her that I did not order them, I sent them back to her and out of curtious I helped her with writing a letter on her behalf and sending the package back and now she wants me to pay for something I did not order. She said she was turning this over to a collection agency. And the very next day a woman by the name of Keri with CRF Solutions calls and says she is collecting a bad debt from Assoacited Supply Company for Ink Cartridges we ordered. I explained what happened she said she would get an invoice and fax it to me. I get the invoice and it is dated for none other than April 28, 2008. Sure is funny if I ordered something way back in February that the invoice would be dated back then not the day the collection agency calls me. So I have this problem not sure what to do I will take any suggestions from anybody.

This is a very common "scam". There are several companies that do this so I don't know particuarlly about this one. The scam is not that you don't get the products, but that you never ordered(or have any intention of ordering) the products in the first place.

A salesrep calls up saying they want to "verify" your copier/printer/fax to make sure they have the correct item on file from when you ordered items from them before(which you never did). They hope to get a big office where the person who answers the phone just gives them the information. Then magically a few days later you get packages for overpriced supplies. Again hoping that they hit a big office, they want that bill to slip through and get paid. Unfortunatly this works more often than not so they can stay in "business". Worse yet some go as far as saying they are from some other company(such as Staples) or just call to get a name of a person and send the office anything. When the Payables department gets the invoice it has the name of a real person in the office.

Unfortunatly you did not write down the tracking number so it makes it a bit harder.

Start with FedEx. See if they can give you the tracking numbers of items that were picked up from your office on that date. If you explain the situation they may do a lot of the research for you.

Hopefully your business has a corporate lawyer. If so have them send a "nicely"(I.E. Threatening) worded letter that states that they provided the label so they will have the tracking number information and must provide it to you. The problem here is that they may have several "unused" tracking numbers and say that the one they gave you is one of these.

If that does not work you may need to file suit against them. When you do that you can request that they hand over the actual FedEx billing statement for this period. From the billing statement you can get the tracking numbers and hopefully find yours in that list.

Once you do have the tracking number it is a simple inquiry to show they received the package.

The other side(which sucks) is that they hope you won't go through all of this for $300+ dollars and just pay them. With the time it is costing you fighting them does become a matter of principal over money.
