Not long ago I purchased a $600+ futon bed from the Sams Club. It has been used twice by our guests and broke. I contacted Sams Club corporate offices and was told, in rather dismissive manner, to contact a club where I purchased that unfortunate furniture. Manager of the club has informed me that I have to contact manufacturer. When I asked about a name and address of that manufacturer, perhaps as far away as in China, he was unable to provide one.

It seems that the modus operandi of the Sams Club is to sell substandard products at inflated prices and when they break, send their victim on a wild goose chase. I find that repulsive.

.
Most 'retailers' DO  make exchanges on defective merchandise. (I'm a bit puzzled at the  'guaruntee' to which you allude. I'll take that to mean ' guarantee')  When someone buys a product from a  retailer, they ARE NOT dealing with the manufacturer. The correct order of return or exchange would be retail buyer / retail seller / manufacturer in that order. There are, of course, exceptions to this order, but usually that would be the norm.
.
Part of the usual 25% to 40% or more mark-up pocketed by the retailer would entitle the
buyer to deal with any shortcomings with the retailer. Thats part of the cost of doing retail sales. Deal with the manufacturer? 90% or better of all retail merchandise sold in the United States is made in China, if not Singapore, Hong Kong, The Bahamas, Mexico, etc.
.
Deal with the "manufacturer"? Thats humorous!

.

Sams club reminds me of Big Lots.  Any item  seen during any visit there should be purchased at that time if wanted / required. Next visit? Probably no longer available. Many of their non-grocery items seem to be purchased at the whim of one of their buyers because its a deal: meaning a deal for Sams Club and ultimately priced very often at what a similar (often more current)  item may be purchased elsewhere.  Elsewhere without a membership cost, I might add.

.

I guess its clear Im not a fan of Sams Club. I must admit, however, in deference to your experience, I have returned items to Sams Club within

a reasonable time frame. I no longer ante up for their membership fee, however. Somehow it seems nonsensical to PAY to shop somewhere.

.

P.S.: I dont see where Ashley embarrassed herself.

Sam's club only allows returns in a certain time frame. I'm assuming this is outside that time frame correct? Past that time frame you have to use the manufacturer's warranty on defective products. Sam's club just sells the goods, they don't guaruntee them. That's why you get warranties on your products. What Sam's club has done is no different than any other retailer. Did you keep the paperwork that came with your bed? It should have all the information on the company and the warranty for your futon.
