My wife and I used the USAA Car Buying Service and located a used 2014 Ram 3500 Mega Cab at the San Tan Ford lot in Gilbert, Arizona. The USAA Car Buying Service works with dealers to guarantee internet prices plus dealer documentation fees on used vehicles. We received our guaranteed price and were contacted by the Internet Sales Manager to arrange a test drive. Test drive went well and we decided to purchase the truck. The Internet Sales Manager then passed us off to another set of "managers" that added extra costs and a GPS that we inssted that we did not want on the truck. During the signing process the finance manager was very crass and rude to my wife when he pointed out the GPS addition and my wife stated that we did not want the GPS addition.

He then told her that the bottom line was the bottom line and it's not that much more. We clammed up and went on about our way. During a servicing check at a Dodge Ram dealer, we found out that there was never an oil change or fuel filter change when the vehicle was accepted to San Tan Ford. We also found out that there were 3 open recalls on the truck that were not disclosed to us by San Tan Ford during the truck purchase. I attempted to contact the San Tan Ford Recon Manager and neither the General Manager or the Recon Manager have returned my calls.

The Internet Sales Manager that originally worked with us on the deal has since been fired for failing to "play ball" at San Tan Ford. During a call with the former Internet Sales Manager, he disclosed that San Tan Ford makes a practice of adding additional fees (up to $3,000) to vehicles to mark up the price. The former Internet Sales Manager recommended that I file a report with RipoffReport.com. I try to turn the other cheek with some things but since returning from being stationed overseas and a recent deployment, my wife and I have been ripped off three times in 2 years. The acts of the few tarnish the good of the mass and my return to America has been a bit sour thus far.

Scams in the Auto industry will never go away

AUTHOR: Auto dealer fraud Investigator - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 18, 2017

I'm sorry for your unfortunate situation but I always tell people as a auto dealer fraud investigator you have the ability to get up and walk away at any moment when some so-called manager wants to sell you something that you do not Years ago I brought a story to a local TV station about a dealership down in Tempe The TV station was 3 on your side personally I don't think they are on your side because the local dealership in Tempe was actually preventing people from getting safety recall notices on the new cars that they have purchased from that dealership if they thought you were going to be a pissed off consumer and fill out the survey in a negative fashion Of course 3 TV would not air the story the gentleman that was the news reporter at the time was rich Skidmore he was the three on your side investigator and he always tried to do whatever he could to bring stories to the American people here in the valley to try to educate them from scams and Let me tell you something about the Auto industry when it comes to buy a new or used cars Just because you fill out a credit application does it mean that your credit report is going to be looked at only one time there is some software call dealertrack it's installed pretty much in every computer at your franchise dealerships by the way I'm sure that you never got a copy of your credit application you got copies of everything else you signed between you filled out the credit application they never gave you a copy of the credit application you filled out They let me get back to this software called dealertrack This software can help pretty much every department at a dealership improve and increase their bottom line it makes it much but also the finance manager as they like to be called can take your information that you filled out on your credit application and lay it out in the software called dealertrack They take the software and they use it as a tool to send your credit information to a whole bunch of autolenders Define doubt which Linder is the best to structure the deal Many times did dealerships do not use dealertrack to structure the deal best for you let me explain about the If you sign a contract that's a 8% and the dealership takes your credit information and fires it off to a whole bunch of different lenders and A lender will offer 3% that's called the buy rate if you agree to 8% on a contract and the dealership gets it bought the loan at 3% the difference is five point spread goes to the dealer so you'll be making payments based upon 8% because that's what you agreed to but the dealership got the long bought at 3% the difference goes to the dealer that's 5% But the fight is manager will never show you his computer screen when he's applying this information to structure the loan. What a Salesman sells you a vehicle of your choice he will get anywhere between 100 and maybe five hundred bucks Commission that's if the dealerships managers as they like to be called do not decide to float The Front End gross to the back and steal part of the salesman's commission ask anybody about floating The Front End gross to the back that's been in the car business they'll tell you usually auto dealerships that hire what I call green peas that's typically what they're called in the Auto industry what they do is they hire people that have never been in the Auto industry so that way they can take money from them and those green peas have no clue what the finance manager will the general manager has done to them The finance manager as they like to be called will sell you everything that he can touch that sitting on his desk in Arizona they like to call this one package if you will the desert protection package sometimes for as much as a thousand bucks but they really never put anything on the vehicle to protect it other than $14.95 plastic mud flaps I'm sure that you are familiar with a finance manager tries to sell you an extended warranty whatever warranty you might choose Google the name and the word ripoff behind it and see what pops up on the first page of Google They will show you a list of the things that the extended warranty will cover but they will never show you a list of the items that are not covered because that list is so much if they show you the list of items that are not covered under any particular warranty you would never purchase the extended warranty I'm willing to bet that you never got a copy of the credit application you filled out back in the day when I sold cars one finance manager showed me how to take the credit application that you personally filled out and remove your signature off of that credit application and place it on another credit application and fill it out the way the salesman wanted it to appear in front of the linders eyes I sold cars in Arizona back in the mid-nineties and I seen so much go on I couldn't wait to bring the one particular story to Rich Skidmore from 3TV but I know that they would not air the story cuz they did not at that time I feel one of the American people to know what was really going on I always tell people never be afraid to get up and walk out the farther you walk away from the front door of the building the prices of everything will always go down if you like the price of everything they're trying to sell you stay in that chair and crunch numbers no more If for any reason you don't like the price of anything they are trying to sell you get up and walk out never be afraid to do that Years ago I did a story on a local dealership and posted graphic pictures about what is called a addendum sticker It was a dealership down in Tempe that placed additional dealer markup stickers sometimes they called it a market adjustment sticker they made the stickers look just like the manufacturers MSRPs they made it the same color to make you think the sticker was placed on the vehicle by the manufacturer and so many people fell for that scam back in the day there are actual pictures posted on Ripoff Report if you know what you're looking I'm sorry that you feel the way you feel about the purchase you made but I can tell you it always feels good and I mean really good to get up and walk out after they show you the first set of numbers most of the time the first set of numbers that they throw at you are called the Rockets pencil they hope you are the sucker and you take the first set of numbers that they throw at you Call up your favorite car salesman and ask him or her if they will show you the dealertrack print out of your deal I seriously doubt that anyone will show you that no matter what dealership you choose Post your thoughts and your questions maybe I will respond to them
