I signed up with ScoreSense.Com for $1.00 for a "free" credit report/score.  I did not see any contract telling me I authorized them to debit my checking account for $29.95 if not cancelled in 7 days.  I was in the hospital.  I came out today 10/6 to find a charge on my account.  I'm on disability and cannot afford this debit from my limited funds.

Spoke with Customer Service Rep on 10/6

AUTHOR: AngryInFlorida - ()

I Spoke with a customer service rep. on 10/6, and explained the situation.  I told him about the hospitalization.  I also told him I received NO MEMBERSHIP NUMBER OR E-MAIL from  I told him I put a claim in with my bank, and have a lawyer on retainer who would contact ScoreSense regarding this matter.  The Rep told me that due to the fact that I received NO email, and I CHECK ALL MY SPAM MAIL, EACH ONE, that it was an error on ScoreSense part and I would receive my $29.95 back into my checking account.

ScoreSense claims the "free" membership is clearly indicated.  Well, for older people like me, who are ill, on disability AND have a difficult time seeing -- this disclaimer should be made IN RED BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS at the time of the initial $1.00 debit and again contact the consumer with a reminder that the trial is ending.

I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL and had no one to check my mail.  When I came home the morning of 10/6, I checked ALL my mail and received NO mail from ScoreSense.

As far as I'm concerned it's just a scam to get people's money.

It's in large type in their terms and conditions

AUTHOR: FloridaNative - ()

I don't work for them, but I do read the terms and conditions when signing up for something online because there is usually a trick - especially when a "free trial" is used to entice you to sign up.  Right in the terms and conditions it says you are getting monthly credit monitoring service and you will be charged for the service each month until you cancel the service. If you haven't canceled already, you need to do so right away or your card will continue to be charged. Just so you know, the scores offered by scoresense aren't even the right scores, they use their own scoring formula.

For your reference, I am including the relevant portion of the terms and conditions that tell you that it is a monthly service that you are buying. You will need to go back to their site and read how to cancel the service so you don't rack up a bunch of charges.

Here is the part about the free trial and it rolling into regular service:  "You must provide valid debit or credit card payment information at time of enrollment in Subscription Services, or at the time of purchase of Transactional Services. We will verify your debit or credit card information before processing your order, including performing an authorization in an amount up to the stated monthly membership fee for all Subscription Services, and/or all fees associated with the purchase of Transaction Services. The authorization amount may count against your debit or credit limit. For Subscription Services which include a free-trial period, if you do not cancel your free trial within the free trial period, you will be charged at the monthly rate in effect at that time for the Subscription Services for which you enrolled. Your debit or credit card (including, if applicable, as automatically updated by your card provider following expiration or change in account number) will continue to be charged each month at the applicable monthly rate unless and until you cancel the Subscription Services. IF THE SERVICES YOU CHOOSE INCLUDE A FREE-TRIAL PERIOD, YOUR FREE TRIAL PERIOD IS MEASURED IN 24-HOUR DAYS. FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU SIGN UP FOR A 7-DAY FREE TRIAL PERIOD AT 10:00 A.M. ON MARCH 1, 2010, YOUR FREE TRIAL PERIOD WILL EXPIRE AT 9:59 A.M. ON MARCH 8, 2010."
