*Consumer Suggestion: You can get a mattress without chemicals, but it takes some work.

Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

Allege that Sleep Country sells mattress sets with toxic fire retardant materials that have made me ill for over eleven months.

Allege Sterns & Foster $1387.34 mattress set contains chemical toxins that "off gas" daily producing symptoms that are readily apparent to consumers: headache, fatigue, difficulty breathing, sinus problems, cough, dermatitis, sleeping difficulties, runny nose and sore throat.

Chemicals may include formaldehyde (H2CO), trichloroanisole (TCA), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), vinylidiene chloride (VC), boric acid and/or antimony.

Sleep Country, Stearns & Foster, Sealy Corporate officials are slow to address concerns; quarantine mattress sets; take proactive measure to test chemical toxicity; utilize federally recognized testing and monitoring devices; unwilling to communicate or work with state and federal health officials; unwilling to pick up or remove mattress set from our resident in a timely manner.

Sleep Country, Stearns & Foster, Sealy Corporate officials do not provide consumers with information about potential effects of placing a dust mite cover membrane over their mattress sets that may prolong H2CO, TCA, PBDE, VC or other chemical off-gasing. Many consumers place dust mite protective cover over their new mattress set upon mattress set being received and placed on foundation or Hollywood frame.

Toxic chemical effects of manufacturing process fire retardants not discussed with consumer in writing or before sale such as:

Products that contain formaldehyde centre

Formaldehyde chronic exposure hazards

Formaldehyde effects on humans
Formaldehyde long term health effects

Please respond in kind if you report similar symptoms. This is a national health care disaster from my perspective. Buying another bed is an option but only if you off-gas the fire retardants well enough.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

You can get a mattress without chemicals, but it takes some work.

AUTHOR: Lexy - (U.S.A.)

You can thank your government for the regulations that make mattress companies do what they do.

"A federal regulation (16 CFR 1633) put into effect on July 1, 2007 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission was supposedly done to protect consumers from mattress fires. In order to meet these new regulations, mattress manufacturers will use known toxic chemicals such as Antimony Trioxide, Boric Acid, Ammonium Polyphosphate, Decabromodiphenyl Oxide, Melamine, Vinylidene Chloride, Formaldehyde, and other chemicals. The CPSC did not require mattress manufacturers to disclose what chemicals they are using so manufacturers are free to use whatever chemicals they choose to meet the FR standard. When consumers are given these facts an overwhelming majority would prefer to have a mattress without FR chemicals and to continue with the minute risk of suffering from a mattress fire as they have all along up until July 1, 2007. These facts force the question; why did the CPSC force something on consumers that consumers don't want and why did they allow mattress manufacturers to hide what chemicals they are using?

The answer is simple! MONEY! By forcing these new regulations on mattress manufacturers, it has forced a great deal of expenses on them. Large manufacturers can easily absorb these new expenses but small manufacturers cannot. This explains why the International Sleep Products Association (an association that represents large domestic mattress manufacturers AND chemical manufacturers) supported the new CPSC FR regulation. By putting small domestic and foreign manufacturers out of business, the large manufacturers make more money and chemical manufacturers make more money!
