sedgwick regina crenshaw Epilepsy, benefits denied, lexington kentucky

I've suffered from epilepsy since I was a small child. I have been able to keep my seizures under control enough to have a normal life. I hold a full time job and raise a family. However, every so often....about every five to seven years, I have what is called a string of breakthrough seizures. usually it is due to me being on the anticonvulsant medicine too long and the neurologist will have to change it up or increase the dose because my body has gotten too used to the current medication. this can usually take anywhere from a month to three months to get the correct medication and correct dose and get the seizures to stop again.

In years past, I have filed my short term disability claim and FMLA claim with Sedgwick and had zero problems. Everything went smoothly and I was able to recover without the added stress of being concerned about the well being of my family's finances. As seizure activity is increased and mutiplied by stress. However in November of 2013, the experience I had with Sedgwick was less that satisfying. My benefits were first denied because "lack of medical" support. meaning that they were not satisfied with the time it took my neurologist to fax my medical records to them.

For all I know they sat on the fax machine for days because it wasnt until later that i realized how incompitent the company had become over the last few years. My claim had to be appealed. So I went through the long process of appealing it. I had doctors appointments every two weeks and was able to send them plenty of information from my doctor. I work in a medical laboratory with needles and biohazard chemicals and waste. My doctor not only didnt want me driving to work. But said that if I found a ride that slipping in and out of consciousness with the seizures around such harmful things was definately not a good idea and he absolutely did not want me working.

As I'm sure most people would agree! But not Sedgwick. No, no, no. My claim was denied. At least thats what I was told by some random operator on the phone that i didnt even know. The case "manager" that they had assigned me was named Regina Crenshaw. How many times have I talked to her in the last four months??? One time! And that was only after i called 14 times and left 10 voicemails in the span of two days. She was the one that was supposed to call me and tell me if my claim was denied or approved. But when I ould not get ahold of Ms Crenchaw, I called the company and like every other time, she was not in her office.

So the operator told me my claim was denied but could not give me a definitive reason as to why. that was a week ago and after leaving messages for Ms Crenshaw to call me, I have still yet to hear from her about my claim. When I talked to the operator, I asked if I could speak with Ms Crenshaw's supervisor....they couldnt seem to find her either. I asked to speak to her supervisor's supervisor. To which the operator said, " maybe you should just call back later." She also proceeded to tell me that their office was in Georgia, where they were getting "all kinds of nasty weather."

Is that why they werent doing their job? Is that why my case got pushed to the side? is that why something that not only DESERVES to be approved but WAS approved six years ago, wasnt approved this time? They just had more important things to worry about? My recovery time took a month and a half longer than it normally would have because i was extremely stressed out over this entire situation. The doctor bills piled up and half of my family's income was gone. All because a few incompitant people didnt want to do their job. I will not rest until something is done. There is no excuse for this company to get by with this type of work ethic and behavior.
