skinfreshmd.com this company offers a product for shipping charges of $4.95; then knowing that credit card statements are generated once a month, they charge $97.67 and place you on regular monthly shipment of the product. They claim that somewhere in teeny tine print on the ordering page this was clearly explained. This company is a scammer. The packaging slip inside contains no information about the order, no company name, telephone number, charges applied, etc. What a normal business provides concerning an order. SkinfreshMD.com is a scammer.  They advertise a web offer for a face cream product to try for payment of shipping cost of $4.95 only.  Knowing full well that credit cards generate a monthly statement only once a month, they then charge your card $97.67, and then place you on a regular shipping status.  The claim is that somewhere on the ordering page in some "small print" this is fully disclosed.

I have been informed by my credit card that they receive "hundreds" of calls concerning the charges, and that this company will not refund any charges made even though they tell they will.

This company is not going to be around for long.

There are many skin care companies that use this method

I am not defending these companies in any way. In fact, it is so pervasive that the FTC obtained a court order in Oct 2016 from a lawsuit filed in 2015 barring 29 skin care marketers from deceptive marketing and billing practices. The main practice is exactly as you describe - you sign up for a "free trial" that cost a nominal amount for shipping and the trial is up in a short period (like 14 days) and then you discover a large charge on your credit card for a monthly subscription.  Look up the court order on the FTC website and do your best to cancel the service because they charge this large amount every month. This deceptive marketing is still around. Best to not buy skin care products over the net as many of them use the same deceptive ads.

I do have a tip for you though: if you sign up for paperless billing with your credit card, you can see your charges as they occur or within 24 hours usually. You don't have to wait for a month to get the statement. It is convenient and much quicker than waiting on paper statements. The benefit to you is being able to catch fraudulent charges much more quickly.
