Friday June 1, I went to walmart in the Brier Creek shopping center. I Went into Smart Style Family Hair Salon to get my hair cut and styled. I was given a stylist I don't know her name, however she is Indian or hindue. I showed her a picture from the style book, how i wanted my hair. She said no problem. Their is a sign out side the door with pricing. I asked for a body perm the sign said perms 39.99 This includer wash, blow dry nad cut. I told her thats what i want she sai ok.

My hair was below my shoulders. The style was short. First she cut my hair to the length i wanted. Then she started the perm, witch took too long. I have had other perms before never a mess like this. Then at the time of neturlizing the timer was set for 5 minutes. She started to cut another persons hair, the alarm went off and she reset it for another 2 minutes. Before she reset the timer another stylist asker her if she wanted her to rinse my hair, she said no. I sat their for another 10 minutes before she got to me.

After the perm she cut it some more. I told her it was not what i asked for. She tried to blow dry it out which made it worse. so i told her to wet it down again. I had pin curles on top, the sides were longer their were spaces where it didn't blend. and places on the top that looked like i was bald. I went in at 4:30 left 9:00. no matter what she tried it was awful. then she charged me 91.05 for the mess. Also another woman came in to get fixed from another stylist who messed up her hair the day before.

I was told if i didn't like it I had to contact coprate office. Sat I went to Master cuts, they could not believe how bad it was. nothing blended, front part were cut to short. They straighted the curles and fixed the mess and it cost me 59.00. I payed walmar by credit card. went to the bank and stoped payment. I have pictures of the messed up hair from walmart and the sign. I also all the receipts.

#5 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Things like this are not uncommon

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

Lorie,

I want to say that first of all, I do agree with the above replies: I used to work at Smart Style, and yes, perms START at $39.99. As your hair gets longer, so does the price. If your hair was as long as you say, the total you paid sounds about right.

However, I more than likely would have thrown a fit, too, had I seen what the end result was. Now concerning the amount of time the neutralizer was on: I was taught by my cosmetology instructor that neutralizer was not going to harm the hair any if left on past the standard 5 minutes. I wouldn't recommend someone sitting 30 or 40 minutes with it on their hair, but 10 minutes or so isn't going to hurt it. And as far as the stylist is concerned, apparently she just got out of cosmetology school and was still a little unsure of herself, or she flat-out didn't know what she was doing in the first place (or BOTH). That's why I recommend with any salon you go to that's in an open spot such as Smart Style, Regis, Supercuts, Mastercuts, etc., sit back and observe the stylists for about 20-30 minutes. Watch and see which one knows what they're doing, and which ones don't know a comb from a clippie. Then you can make a proper judgement as to who you feel is qualified enough to do your hair. As a stylist myself, we work hard for our money, and working with Regis is a tough job seeing as though their commission scale is constantly rising making stylists have to do that much more to earn that commission (which is a measly percentage for the sales you have to bring in if you ask me; that's why I left). But I also feel that a stylist in ANY salon should have to show that he/she is worthy of their commission. If you get in a salon and make people look like the Queen of England, you deserve every penny you earn and then some. If you take a client and make them look like someone who's been living in a ditch, then you don't deserve squat. And if you are constantly messing customers hair up, you need to resign your position and either go back to school or consider a totally new profession. That's the problem with a lot of salons; they allow stylists to remain employed even though their botch-jobs keep growing in numbers. Regis has a policy where if your technical errors are too many you can be disciplined up to and including termination, but they've never enforced it from what I've seen. And as the above replies stated, Regis owns Mastercuts too. BUT, I feel as if the person as Mastercuts can do a better job than the person at Smart Style, stick with them.

You know, there are good stylists at Smart Style across this country; I should know-I've worked with quite a few myself and even my own clientele was good enough to where I rarely got a chance to sit and rest during my 8-hour shift. I just wish people wouldn't assume that because it's Smart Style, then it's automatically bad news. But then again, it's hard NOT to assume that with the reports you read on here and the countless other complaints you hear that aren't published on this site. Good luck to you on finding a stylist that can do your hair and do it properly. But when you ask for advanced services such as perms and colors, don't be such a penny pincher.

you should really read a little more before you assume the price is gonna be what's on the sign....the sign says perms START at 39.99, that means yours probably won't be 39.99 if your hair is down to your butt....providing your hair was as long as you say it was, the price she charged you for a hair cut and perm is perfectly reasonable. the company gives us pricing guidelines, and they leave it up to us to follow those guidelines. it is completely up to the stylist to charge you however she sees fit depending on the amount of time she spent on your hair, and the type of perm she performed on you. and i agree with the person who says do your research, because i like how you went to another regis salon to fix what a regis salon did to you in the first place....i'm not saying the stylist was the most skilled person in the world, i'm just saying don't trash talk about prices when you ASSUMED the price for your perm would be 39.99 when in all actuality she probably could have charged you your final total on just the perm alone. hair is not a cheap thing to do, and you pay for what you ask for. we work HARD for that commission, and we deserve every penny we get. so next time you want to complain and probably get someone fired, make sure you know what you're really complaining about. go to any smart style and ask to see the price book. you'll see our guidelines for pricing on perms, color, cuts, relaxers, and anything else we offer at our wonderful salons. i have 10-20 perfectly happy customers leave my chair everyday, and they never once complain about our prices. don't be cheap
