This salon is a walk-in sign your name and wait to be called located inside Wal-Mart on John Young Pkwy. & Sand Lake Rd. Orlando, Florida. The staff was talking amongst each other carrying a personal conversation while taking care of a customer's hair. One staff member passed up on doing my daughter hair to do her own hair while the salon was busy..

Friends of the staff would come in and kiss and greet the stylist while working on a customer's hair, she was also talking on a cell phone. I complained to the manager which was doing my daughter's hair at the time with no response in reference to her staff.... As time went by and all staff just ignored me, I approached a couple of hair stylist and asked if they were available to do my hair...since I had been waiting for so long, but they did not response they just simply walked away.

By now my daughter's hair had been washed, heat conditioned and blow-dried straight. The manager asked if I wanted her to do my hair and I agreed since no one else had offered...I asked for a long layer trim, heat conditioning and blow dry straight. I made sure that the manager knew about the bad experience I was having with their customer service unethical practices. About 4 1/2 hours later and totally disgusted with their services and my hair I just wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

I was charged the same amount for both services although my daughter did not get a hair cut? I gave her the money and she said Thank You.....I stood there waiting for my $20.00 change...I then told her I was waiting for my $20.00 change and she said OH here is your change.....
I will never use their services again.....and I hope no one else goes through what I went through.....

I have since, called their corporate office and they weren't nice either....very rude over the phone. I managed to get an email after waiting awhile. I have since emailed two Customer Relations Staff and also left messages on their voicemail....still waiting....

#5 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Very Unproffessional conduct I agree,

AUTHOR: Sheilahagerty - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 13, 2009

I was taught while I was in school that number one rule the customer is always treated as if they were a family member and they are your top priority when they are in your chair, as far as the talking amongst themselves, well, at least they have a good rapport. But there is a list in which sign in on, and you do have to wait until it is your turn weather it be one person ahead of you or twenty. Or there could have been a tiff going on and the staff was being immature and selfish to your needs and other custmers needs. It does not surprise me that you got the cool end of the deal from the corp office, they tend to be that way, all the way around, not only to you as a custmer but to employees as well. I will assure you that it was addressed during the management meetings that area and district managers go to along with there districts managers.
But to blame the schools, I can not say for all, but the one I went to we had it pounded into our heads from day one. I am sorry that you had a poor experience, but I worked with someone who said that the clients were pooring in like a head of cattle, I was furious, but could not say anything out on the floor cause we in my school were taught not to address issues in front of the clients, that is done in private, so if a disagreement ensues than the custermer will not hear it.

Agrees on blaming Cosmetology Schools

AUTHOR: Megan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 08, 2006

I am an ex-employee of Smart Styles in Georgia, USA. Going through Cosmetology school, all we ever learned was state board. The public does not understand that all schools enforce are pin curls, finger waves and out of date cuts. And then when we pass "State Board", then we are threw to the streets into salons to where all we know is what we learned in school. Also I worked in this salon for 5 months and after 1 1/2 of cosmetology school, I am going back to the medical field in pursuit of a much better career.

smart style stylist

I have worked for smartstyle in the past. It was haines city, fla. I really enjoyed it. Next week I'm starting work at the smartstyle in henrietta,n.y.

I can understand the complaints. I agree, regis corp which owns smart style needs to crack down on the unprofessional behavior and low quality services! I've been a stylist for over 10 yrs and I've actually had to teach new stylists basic services!

The beauty schools are also to blame. They barely teach you anything so you have to learn on the job which explains a lot of the shoddy work! I have seen and heard the unprofessional conduct in salons. This is a respectable career and stylists need to act like professionals!

Bad Experence at Smartstyle

AUTHOR: C - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 04, 2006

I think all of these Smartstyle salons have problems. I went in there to get a hair cut and the stylist said she didnt know how to cut the style I wanted so she ask another stylist to cut it. She said she new how but said it would be a few minutes before she could get to me. She was talking to some of the other stylist there about the wild weekend she had with her boyfriend and going on to extreme details which I didnt care to hear. Finally after 45 min. when she was finished talking I sat in her chair to get the cut. She had started talking again about her wild weekend while I WAS SITTING IN HER CHAIR! I didnt think I was ever going to get a hair cut. Guess what? I got up and said to forget the haircut if she couldnt pay attention to doing my hair instead of talking and I ask to talk to the manager...Well she was the manager...what a laugh...Smartstyle needs to clean up in thier salons and get rid of moron stupid managers. This was at the Forest City Location in North Carolina. The Manager was Crystal P.

I Had A Bad Experience With Smart Style too!!

AUTHOR: Sherry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 15, 2005

Mine happened at the WalMart in Altoona, Iowa though.

The stylist was in her early twenties and I was the only customer in the shop that Saturday afternoon. The stylist's friend was sitting in a chair chatting with the stylist. I had a photo of myself with a style I had previously worn and I wanted it cut that way again. It was kind of a medium length shag type cut. I showed it to her and she took me back and washed my hair and then she started to cut my hair.

The photo I showed her clearly showed the nape length of my hair to be about 3 inches long. What did she do? She took the scissors and cut off the entire back length of my hair clear to the hairline!! I was in complete shock and asked her why she had cut off all of my length when the photo did not show that at all? She stated that she couldn't see the back of my head in the photo! Well, I really had no choice with all of my hair cut off in the back and her being the only stylist in the shop but to sit there and let her finish.

The entire haircut ended up being way too short, like a men's cut. Shorter then I had ever had it cut in my life. Maybe if she had been paying attention to me instead of talking with her friend about the bachelorette party they had been to the night before, and deciding where they were going drinking that night after she got off work she would have done a better job on my hair!

When I got home my husband asked what had happened to my hair and I told him. He asked me if I had complained and if I had paid for it I told him I was in shock, she was the only one in the shop, there was no one to complain to, and all I wanted to do was pay and get the hell out of there.

It took me 2 years to grow my hair back. I will never set foot in a Walmart Smart Style salon again.
