I've seen a few reports on Savanh Marketing Systems when that company operated in Tampa, Fla but I have yet to see an elaborate, thorough report on how this company works and why they are bad news and just the lowest of the low. I "worked" for SMS last year in the summer and I want everyone to know that it is just not worth it. I am here to show you, the reader, how this company works, what they do, how they treat their employees, the kind of trash they feed to build the employees egos, and why working for a company like this is not for the average, decent, individual. Basically, you're better off working at a fast food chain than with these clowns. This is not a complaint or a report by a disgruntled, angry, bitter person. If anything, this is a report from someone that seeks the truth and wants everyone that is not informed to know the truth. Here we go.
I was looking for a job during the summer when I came across Savanh Marketing Systems in Corona, California. They love to target people like me: Young, In school, with almost no work experience, and also willing to try anything especially in the economic hell this country is going through. They told me that they were happy this recession was going on because they knew and I quote "We can reel in the scumbags that sit in front of the TV and have them work for us and close".
Well, as naive as I was, I emailed them with my resume and sure enough I received a reply within a day stating that the "managers" had been impressed with my resume (I just had one previous job, Red Flag #1" and that I was chosen from "thousands and thousands" of applicants. I was astounded and followed the directions which were to call in and set up a first interview. So I did that, the HR girl answered and she was very friendly and laid back...too friendly and laid back (Red Flag #2). She asked me to come in for the interview and I did the following day. So i go and I see a line of other potential candidates. Great.
So I fill out the standard paperwork and I was told one of the "managers" would come in and interview me. A clown by the name of "Manny" came out and gave me my first interview. He must have liked me because he invited me for a 2nd interview in which he said "Almost no one ever gets a second interview". So during my interview, I asked him what exactly I would be doing if I was hired. he simply said "you will be working with accounts and try and keep existing customers from a relaxed environment". What the F does that mean?? I simply said okay and left.
So I came for my second interview and I was led into another room with another clown named "Eric" and I was amazed to see how 6 other people were asked to come back. I thought "almost no one ever gets a second interview". Well, After the clown "Eric" talks, we are led into the center of the office where the rest of the "Sales Reps" are sitting, waiting to start the morning meeting. The main clown of the Office, "Sys", begins to give a long and boring speech about how the company will grow and people working there will be making lots of money. "You get what you put in". Well he goes on and on about how this company will grow and everyone will be successful and after he is done, he tells everyone to go "hit the field". Wait, what? Yeah as you know by now, its door-to-door sales. Again, I apologize for my naivety.
So I was told I would be shadowing the clown "Manny" and off we went to some town 40 miles away from the office and here is where all the BS and unfairness begins. Well, Manny told me they work from 11AM to 9PM. Long hours huh? It only gets better. As you might have guessed from now, it is COMMISSION based. You go door-to-door to sometimes riff-raff neighborhoods, and try and sell the AT&T's U-Verse. Here is where the jobs gets interesting. You walk around for virtually a half a day, and sometimes you dont even sell anything. Okay, So you're working 9+hrs, and you maybe close two accounts on average, and thats what, $110.00 a day? Sounds good?
Well Lets say you're making $450.00 (because this is the average. People I spoke to that worked at SMS told me thats what they get on a good week). So $450.00, so lets subtract $70 from gas because SMS does not and I repeat DOES NOT reimburse you the gas money. (good luck if you do end up working for them. I hope you enjoy your daily 40+miles commute from Corona to some really far out city in OC, Also I hope you enjoy sitting in traffic for hours at a time) They say they do, but they don't. $70.00-$30.00 on food/lunch-$20 on other amenities and what does that leave you with for a week? $330.00. I ask you, is that enough to pay bills and other things in the midst of a huge recession? No. So you're basically working 9+hrs a day, for 6 days, and you're making on an average $330.00 a week. To me, that is simply not worth it.
This company builds itself on believing they can succeed. They tell the idiots that work for them that they can one day become successful and open up an office wherever they want. I mean, come on. Thats a 1 in a million shot. This company is just bad news. So on a second interview, you shadow a clown Sales Rep and if you're up for the job, they hire you. Upon getting hired, they make you sign a 10-day plan in which it states that you WILL NOT get any compensation if you quit without completing those 10 days. So what does this mean? If an average joe goes in, does the job, and finds that A. He doesn't like the job or B. He can't handle it and quits before the 10 days, but closes 5 accounts, he will not get any money for it. Now that's just horrible.
Another thing that should have been a Red Flag for me was when they give you speeches about bettering yourself and creating goals and hitting them. Come on, really? You should make and create goals in a job that gives you a salary or base pay. Not on a job that rewards you for whatever you sell. Thats just stupid. Well, I can imagine how indebted the clowns at SMS must be despite the nice, "professional" clothing they wear and the riches and fortunes they boast to have since working at Savanh Marketing Systems. The clown "assistant manager" Manny is a great example of a boaster that has nothing to show for it. He boasted $1000+ a week YET he had no car, he had a broken, semi-working, phone and his shoes had holes in them. You think someone making that kind of money would have a great car, a nice phone, and shoes without holes. Well, He said he had it all but had nothing.
How was I affected while "working" for Savanh Marketing Systems? Well for one I was hired under false pretenses. I was told that you would get a paycheck despite if you closed accounts or not. I was told the hours were normal. Who the F works from 11AM to 9PM? Come on. I was shown into the depraved world of face-to-face sales and heard how MANY of the sales reps not only talked trash on the customers they visited but how many referred to the customers as "The pieces of s**t". They had no regard for anyone. They would try and sell to an old woman! Do you think a 97 yr old would have ANY use for AT&T's U-Verse? I was exposed to how lowly they thought of the customers that eventually signed up. How it was important to be an actor and sell when they claimed it was all genuine. (Manny is one of the most fake individuals you will ever meet.)
I could not do this "job". I could not look into the eyes of an honest customer and lie to them. Thats just not me. I have a conscience. Despite what the opposition says about my report, You all know that these reps not only lie, but dont give a s**t about the customer. They're all fake. The whole company is fake. Also, I have a life. I have friends and family that I need to attend to. I refused to work this ridiculous schedule where I was basically making $3.50 an hour. Thats how it is when you think about it.
Savanh Marketing Systems will look appealing to anyone desperate enough for a job. You're better off working at Wal-Mart that with SMS. Why? You get lied to, you get exposed to some really scummy human beings, you get to work from 11AM to 9PM, you work 6 days a week, and its commission based but you get to wear a suit and look "professional". There is really no perks for working here. Well I guess there are. You get doors slammed in your face, you get the opportunity to get cursed out by some angry customer, you also get death threats! and also you get the really angry individuals call the cops on you! Thats fun isn't it? Oh and hey, you get to spent massive amounts on gas money and spend hours in traffic. That sounds fun. You also get chewed up by your fellow employers behind your back. Hey, if that sounds appealing then by all means go for it. The point of this report is to let you, the reader, know that Savanh Marketing Systems and other "Sales Firms" Like it are nothing but bad news. Cydcor, Team TAG, SMS, are all the same - they're the scum of the earth. If you're desperate for a job, go work at McDonalds. Anything is better than SMS.
As for me, I am currently attending school and I work at a bank. I hope this report has given you some insight on how these "Sales Firms" work and how they're just garbage. To the opposition, you know i'm right. You know a Sales Firm like SMS is nothing but fake garbage. Well, I hope I have enlightened you and to anyone that has had a completely opposite experience at SMS and think its the best Company in the world, Bring it on.
