My Uncle george Fantuzzo--age 77 was hospitalized and put in a rehabilitation home.  This company SMW Relocation Services was hired to clean his house out of his personal belongings and consign them to sell for them in their store.  They then proceeded to take everything from his home and convince my uncles daughter that everything was only worth $800.  This included stereo equipement , vcr's, dining room sets, all kitchen cooking eqipment, beds, tables, couches, riding lawn mower, antiques, riding antique lawn mower, etc etc.  An entire homes belongings.

When I found out she agreed to sell all for $800 I was upset as I was convinced they were thieves--and she foolishly accepted because she did not want the hassle of cleaning out his house herself as she lived out of state.  Uncle George was in a home and not able to make decisions for himself.

Now 5 months later uncle George has made an incredible recovery and the company avoids his calls and has not even paid him the $800 for the stuff they agreed to buy from him at a riculously low price.  He has very little money and has lost his entire life--this company took everything from his home.  He has no savings and lives off a small social security check.  They will steal from anyone rich or poor as they have no ethics.

I strongly advise anyone against hiring this company.

When SMW Relocation was originally contacted, Mr. Fantuzzo's daughter was putting his home up for sale.  There were several rooms of furniture, garage in disarray, an overwhelming project to get the house emptied out and ready to sell.  The negotiations went back and forth as to what type of value could be placed on the furnishings and as a consignment situation, felt we may be able to get approx. $600-$800 for what was marketable.  Used furniture and accessories do not command a high dollar value, coupled with dated styles and fabrics,  and when when asked the potential value? Told them it was just a guesstimate.   Also, at  the initial inspection, all the items in the home were going to be available for sale, however, the list was shortened and some items were removed, prior to our starting the job.  That also changed the potential for the original estimate.

Mr. Fantuzzo's home was very dated, as well as his furnishings, however, we did go in and remove all the items to ready the house for sale.  Crews spent endless hours, packing, sorting, itemizing and moving things out of the home.  Several items were of no value...scratched pots, pans, aluminum foil trays, non-working small appliances, stained towels, linens, a grill that was filthy and could not even be donated, just to mention a few.  A refrigerator in the garage had rotting food and spilled liquids and we were able to get that cleaned out and donated to a local charity.    The Florida room and had an excessive amount of sun which damaged almost every item out there.  A small picnic table, 2 benches, and a glass top table, a couple of mounted fish were the only things that came out of that room.  Picnic table in need of stain, glass table base, pitted metal that cannot be restored, and the mounted fish?  Swordfish broken, however, did try and save that as well.  The remainder was taken to the dump as it was falling apart, sun-rotted, etc.  An old John Deere mower had been parked in a corner of the garage and we had it looked at by two professionals and it had no value, whatsoever, as it was missing parts, did not run,  and had to pay to have that hauled away, as well.  We could not even get anyone to take it for scrap! Several items were also left behind at his home as a nephew would be picking them up, and had them neatly organized in one bedroom for the ease of collecting those items.  Flat screen TV, DVD player, clothing, personal items, paperwork, a couple furniture items, vacuum cleaner etc. There were no antiques at the Fantuzzo's residence.

Mr. Fantuzzo called several weeks later and mentioned he was going to be returning back to his house and that he and his daughter had had a falling out.  He was told that all of the salvageable items from his home were stored, at the warehouse, and we would be happy deliver them back to his home when he returned.  At NO charge!  I told him that several items were tossed out as they were broken, damaged, etc., including some of the kitchen items he had squirreled away in cabinets.  We also told him that we would add some newer items, pots/pans, some drinking glasses, a few newer small counter top appliances, etc. and get him set up nicely...again, at NO charge.

Not sure how the communication between his nephew and him have differed or there was a misunderstanding of sorts, but SMW Relocation has gone above and beyond the scope of any consignment company.  There were NEVER any charges for packing, hauling, sorting, warehousing, debris/dump runs, well in excess of $400 alone, charged to Mr. Fantuzzo.  He got one heck of a good deal on getting his home cleaned, presentable for sale, and free storage of his items.  SMW Relocation does not buy out any estates, strictly consign...40% of sale, and property only held onto for 90 days.  Mr. Fantuzzo's things have been stored, free of charge, for longer than that.   And when he's ready to return to his home, it will be unpacked, ready to move back, and be safer and cleaner, than when he lived there previously.  We also saved the Voice Mail messages to validate our position with Mr. Fantuzzo.  After 38 years in business, this would have to be a first!
