SoftRock Career Network The SoftRock - Career Network spam/scam exposed Orlando, Florida

1. For $10,000 SoftRock, aka "CareerNetwork," acquires full access to Careerbuilder's data base.

2. SoftRock/CareerNetwork categorizes you resume in a particular "industry" ("entertainment," in the example I am illustrating here).

3. SoftRock/CareerNetwork sends you an email (Exhibit 1), telling you they are a "job aggregator," and that they have "millions" of job opportunities in the "(whatever) industry," which of course they will make fully available to you if you press the "(Whatever) Position" link in their email.

4. You press the "(Whatever) Position" link; a form appears, in which you provide to SoftRock/CareerNetwork your personal contact information; the form also asks you upload your resume, but if if do not upload your resume it does not matter (you will see why they do not need your resume when you see what happens next).

5. You send the form and a bright, cheerful message appears (Exhibit 2), telling you to call CareerNetwork's toll-free number.

6. I called the number, and asked the rep if I had called SoftRock; his friendly answer: "Actually, we are CareerNetwork, which is part of SoftRock."  What follows next is that the rep presses you HARD to apply for an education -- forget about the "millions of jobs" CareerNetwork had claimed to have for you in the "Whatever" industry!!

7. That is it.  If you fall for their spam/scam, the SoftRock/CareerNetwork rep transfers you to a university where they'll do their best to make you sign up for one of their programs.

8. Right.  There is nothing wrong with furthering your education, but do yo remember what you called CareerNetwork/SoftRock about??  Were you not looking to apply for a JOB in the (whatever) industry??

9. What is in this for SoftRock/CareerNetwork?  They receive a flat fee every time they succeed in connecting a potential student with an educational institution.  SoftRock's fees are not subjected to your taking up a program or not.
