Soma Intimates is a terrible company to work for.

I worked there last year as a part-time associate. Right away something seemed fishy. I was a little late on my second training day, and I was YELLED at. I was 24 years old at the time. I will not be yelled at like a child.

Then that's when things started to get really strange. I made an off-hand comment to a coworker one day about how I don't really like kids and don't plan to have them, and I guess that really offended the manager because she was a mom (the first day I worked there she tried to shove her kid in my face, that should have been my first warning sign), and couldn't stand the thought of someone else not liking kids. Whatever, I didn't care. Children had nothing to do with my job description..or so I thought. Moms with small children would come in all the time and leave the kids unsupervised, leaving me and whoever else was working at the time on babysitting duty. I worked in retail, not childcare. I almost quit on that alone. I wasn't hired to be a babysitter/daycare worker. And the fact that my manager allowed this kind of behavior and did nothing to stop it should have been another red flag. But I was so financially desperate I tried to ignore it.

After figuring out I didn't like kids, the manager looked for every excuse in the book to fire me. The final straw came when I figured out she had been spying on me via social media, and she made personal attacks on my appearance, ie, "I was showing too much skin." I'm an adult woman, I will do as I please outside of work and it's no one else's business what I do with my own body. She ended up firing me because she "didn't like how I carried myself outside of work" and "didn't trust anyone who didn't like children." Again, CHILDREN HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE JOB. And what I do outside of work is my business alone and her stalking me via should have been illegal.

You were late on your SECOND day. The manager had a right to be upset, they have no history with you and probably wanted to make it very clear to you that it better not become a habit. So yes perhaps being talked to like a child is exactly what you needed with that childish attitude.

As for your personal feelings, if those feelings affect your work performance they have every right to take that into consideration. You can dislike kids all you want, but if you are in a store that may have kids present(and I am sure your parents would agree that kids can be a handful) then you have to deal with it putting your personal feelings aside. If you can't, and it seems like this was the case, you probably need to find a different line of work.

If you post on Social Media you can expect perspective or current employers to look at your posts. So if it is something you don't want the entire world to see, or are unwilling to stand by what you post..then DON'T post it. If you are willing to stand by the post then you must be being willing to accept any and all consequences. Even if this includes getting terminated from a job.

A good guideline for Social Media is if you wouldn't want to let your parents or grandparents see it, it is probably something that shouldn't be posted.

Hopefully at 24 you are looking at a long term professional goals and not some short term entry level jobs where you need to actually start to be concerned with how you are seen by the world around you.
