I know her and she is a very sick, totally unconscious, extremely controlling NARCISSIST.  She "has to" rule over everyone around her and "control" them.  She even admitted at one point how "controlling" she is but she does nothing about it, and if she can't rule over you, she gets ballistic and explodes.  She is a dangerous, dangerous character.  She needs an incredible amount of psychiatric help.  Stay away from her.

Her name should be "Sophia PINOCCHIO Zannis!" She lies about her parents' deaths. She lies that she was cut out of her father's will when she wasn't and there's online articles to prove it. She prances around like she's the Queen of Sheba and is above and beyond the rest of us when she is actually NOTHING but the big mouthed illegitimate offspring of some refugee! Sophia PINOCCHIO Zannis! That should be her name.

 This is a simple instance of someone of very bad low class illegitimate origins pretending to be high mighty and a know it all to cover them up.

Beware, beware, this repugnant woman is the most dangerous malignant narcissist I have ever met.  This is especially true when, not if, when she realizes you are not "worshipping" her (as if anyone would want to in the first place).  Then it's look out, world, here she comes!  She'll play mind games on you and try to destroy you.  She hates those her tactics do not work on.  She should be tucked away in a psychiatric hospital.  Narcissism is a mental disorder.

I never knew anybody even remotely as horrific to deal with as this awful Sophia was!  Awful!  She tried to take over everything about me.  She was making horrible comments about every single thing I said and did and kept trying to bully me into becoming somebody else, somebody just like her, and she's a total crazy person.  I thought her morals were in the toilet, and her lifestyle with all her psychiatrists and support groups and total stupidity was also in the toilet, and she was as immature as a toddler on top of it all, yet she would not leave me alone about the good choices I've made for myself! 

Furthermore I recall the old dragon saying that both of her parents came from Europe.  Well I'd like to know WHEN did they come from Europe?  When!  Like were they there during the Second World War, and if so, what did they do in the war?  The idea of anyone living as such a control freak as she does makes me wonder how she was raised and by any chance were her parents practing European fascists?  She tries like mad to squash people who aren't just like her as if we're nothing but bugs, so it's perfectly natural to wonder what kind of a mess she came from and what kind of totalitarian nutcases may have raised her!  If they weren't fascists then what were they?  How could such a terrible narcissistic daughter like they've got have ever been produced?

All I can say in conclusion is if she's heading your way, run away from her as fast as you can or she's capable of targeting you next!

I knew her.  She was  definitely a human steamroller, but why?  I'm just wondering: what was the end game of this monumentally creepy woman?  There had to be a precise point to her endless efforts in trying so hard to take other people over "mind heart body and soul."  What did she hope to achieve with all of her efforts to push people in directions they didn't want to be going in?  Doesn't this sound suspicious?  It might be a good idea for the full scope of her activities ought to be looked into...

Not surprised at seeing reports about Sophia. She is just horrible. A total control freak. She wants to believe she's above everybody when she isn't. She is condescending and rude to anyone who does better than she ever could but tries to take them down by claiming they "need" her to "help" them. In the Sophia view of the world, everyone who isn't "just like her" is "helpless" and we "need her" to come in and "fix" us. I never saw anyone so awful and it's pure evil what she tries to do.

Anyone with a brain sees right through her. Anyone who isn't too savvy is probably at risk though from exposure to her. Do they really let her teach kids. I was reminded of her recently when seeing a documentary about a cult leader who used the same tactics, put people down and claim to be their salvation. A mess. Better watch out, people. She'll be running a temple of sychophants next and calling herself a Bhagwan.

All true! This is all true and I've filed an additional report. What is the New York City Department of education and the administration of Newcomers High school thinking that they are letting this mad as a hatter harridan teach? 

The Dept. of Education in the city of New York must be out of its mind to let her teach!  When she knows an adult is uncomfortable with a subject she keeps bringing it up in their face as a nasty power-play.  WHy do they let her deal with high school students?

I suspect Sophia is a psychotic.  She told grandiose sob stories about her father cutting her out of his will, and they're not true.  When the will went through Probate in Watertown, NY, where she's from, it was in the newspaper that she was a beneficiary.  She's either a liar on purpose or she's a totally dysfunctional psychotic who cannot tell the difference between fantasy and reality.  The students at Newcomers High School should not be subjected to someone like this.

 This woman Sophia has some extremely serious psychological issues.  She gets frustrated when she cannot control other people.  The idea of her working with students terrifies me. 

If she was making snide remarks to you because she has one-night stands all the time and you don't because you're a religious woman who doesn't want to act like her then that is sexual harassment!  That is a sexual harassment case!  All you need for a sexual harassment case is for the other person to use the subject of sex to make you feel uncomfortable and that's what the Sophia bully did!  It doesn't matter if she's a woman and you are too, if she used sex as her bullying topic what she is doing is wrong, it's illegal, there's laws against people like her doing that to you so use them against her and fight!!

I found this on here about my old work associate Sophia Zannis and I feel it's my duty to write my experiences here for the world to see, especially if she is working at a high school for New York City's immigrant population.  I never met anyone even half as prejudiced as this woman!  I come from a very religious background.  I worked with Sophia many years ago and it was at a company with an atrocious corporate culture, smarmy guys looking to cheat on their wives and women who sanctioned that sort of thing and thought it was adorable.  I didn't get into my background with my co-workers.  I didn't like them enough to get personal with them and didn't think they could understand women who don't want to live in the gutter anyway since the gutter is what they all embraced.  So I went to work, did my job, tried to do it to the  best of my ability, then got out of there, went home at night, breathed a sigh of relief, and returned to what I considered my "real life," my home and family.  But this Sophia would never leave me in peace.  She was constantly getting in my face and on my case, making snide remarks and cracks and digs, making fun of me for not living like she did.  She also kept insinuating that she was so wonderful for having different one-night stands with different guys every night of the week, as if that's admirable instead of pathetic.  Behind my back she was telling people there was something "wrong" with me, even.  I would not come on here and say all this if she had been a decent person, but  she was not, not in any category, and she would not leave me alone.  She would not leave me in any kind of peace.  This continued until I got another job and got out of that cesspool where we worked.

I just cannot see this sick woman working with kids from other cultures!  How is she equipped to embrace other cultures? What kind of example will she be setting for teenagers?  She was clearly not capable of even being kind and polite to people who have different customs than hers if you can call living like a desperate "swinger" a "custom."  She was practically a fascist.  If she could see herself as others see her she would be in for the shock of her lifetime.  Further, after she left the company, and old friend from the place called and told me that they'd found Sophia's personal ad to meet guys on her old computer at work. She wasn't meeting them because she was attractive or fun to be around.  She was meeting them because she placed ads!

Hilarious to find out that so many of her stories were lies.  I also recall the one where she claimed her parents both died the same year. 

She sounds like a substance abuser.  She is nice one minute and crazy the next, she throws tantrums, she has no self respect, she's probably on something illegal.  The school should really take a look at this woman if this is going on to such an extent that people are writing complaints about her on the Internet.  She must be way out of control. 

I hope the school can take action.

Yes, definitely, keep this woman, this lying wonder, this freak, away from children! She's horrific enough in her dealings with adults. What a waste of taxpayers' money to give this one a teaching job!

This Sophia is a pathological liar and her lies are supported by documentation and facts that can easily be found on the Internet. I did not know about her lie saying her father cut her out of his will until I read it on here. I found the documents online proving that what she said about him was FALSE.

But I did know another lie she told about her parents. She said her father died and her mother both died during the same year while she was in high school. FALSE! Look it up. Her father died when Sophia was in her 20s and her mother died when she was in her 30s. The same year? FALSE! High school? FALSE! Unless she was high school student until she was past the age of thirty! Look it up, her mother was Gertrude Zannis, her father was John. I never saw anybody who gloried in making up lies about her parents like this screwed up lady does. And they're always to get as much sympathy and attention as she can. When some of us doubted her story and asked her pointed questions since nothing she said added up, naturally she turned on us like a snake. This is a very sick lady. I also witnessed one of her violent episodes. She's lucky she did not do it to me but to someone else. I would have had her locked up.

KEEP HER AWAY FROM TEACHING KIDS!

What kind of screening procedures are in place when the New York City public schools hire teachers? That's the real question. A lot of teachers are entering the school system through a teaching fellows program where a relative worked temporarily and told me how badly it was run. She said there was reverse discrimination going on at the teaching fellows office and no one was stopping it because the supervisors were in on it. And that the employees didn't want to lift their fingers and do any real work. If they are the office that is supposed to screen applicants before placing them in teaching jobs then I am not surprised if the wrong kind of people are slipping in through the cracks. That fellows office puts people who aren't full teachers yet into the schools and gets them qualifications afterward.

I don't know if that's the office involved with this teacher but if it is then don't expect miracles.

I used to know this woman. I'm so very, very glad I no longer do. She is a nightmare in many ways. Seems to think she's God and sits there making all kinds of snide little comments and judgements about other people. Butts in, tries to tell other people how to run our lives. Who does she think she is? Meanwhile she is as tawdry as they come in her own personal lifestyle if you know what I mean. There's a difference between high class, low class and no class. This woman's no class. You know the song Keep Away from Runaround Sue? Well this one is Runaround Sophia, and keeping away is a good idea!

I think the reports about Sophia have a lot of validity. This woman has got herself some problems. She doesn't like anybody who has more confadence than she does. She gets all threatened and turns mean. Puts everybody down. IF you don't like her she say you need help from a doctor. Everybody who don't like her she say they the one need help. THinks her best defence is a good offence and tries to hang label on you. She does not realise shes her own worse enemy. I felt like I was watching a child brat in action not a geriatrix grown woman. Sophia the one who need help from the doctor. Look at some of the response on here you can see what I mean cuz it look like she wrote them. They all the stuff she say.

Sophia is a friend of mine.  Really and truly, she's harmless.  She simply is something of a psychological hypochondriac.  Always looking for major solutions.  She won't harm any children.

I am a parent from another school district.  When I found this I wanted to speak up and say that if there are claims about this woman becoming violent then she needs to be investigated by the school and by the Board of Ed.  Immediately.  As a parent it does not matter to me if my child's teacher had the most stellar resume in the world, where the teacher had worked before, what the media says about her, or what her friends say, if she's violent, if there's any chance that she could harm a child, she needs to be looked into, and sooner rather than later.  The children deserve a whole lot better than this.  As for the Wall Street Journal, they used to say nice things about Bernie Madoff, too, and we all know exactly how that debacle turned out.

Investigate her.  She sounds like a potential liability and it's just not right.

The power of the written word makes anything sound true, and if said often enough then people will believe it as truth and it will take on a life of its own without an investigation of the truth. This is extrememly dangerous - often called trial by media or in this case trial by blog. In the replies I am seeing people read the accusations as truth without asking the questions.

Personal opinion and free speech is fine but to put it up unsupported vindictive personal judgments as truth to character assassinate another person indicates a case of very sour grapes gone putrid, or a mind that is limited in its understanding of the human condition.

The Wall Street Journal recently wrote up Sophia's work as being a leading light in the industry due to her innovative approach and she has been instrumental in bringing her combination of skills in various fields to be one of the most effective teachers in her school, culminating in grants of high tech equipment to the school, which she instigated on her own initiative.

If there were any truth to this woman's incapability to teach it would have come out years ago. She was good enough to teach at Columbia University and Brown but it seems not at Sunnyside.

Sophia's father was Greek and her mother was Jewish - so why wouldn't she investigate and attend both faiths? What's wrong with that anyway ... that she did was made sound like she was mad for pursuing the practices. If you knew these eon old respected faiths you wouldn't question how they heal. A healing of tounges is an ancient tradition. And what's wrong with the New Age? Self help is the biggest industry in America today and has been for 2 decades or more. It's how Oprah became who she is. And what's wrong with self help and trying to improve yourself and expressing your feelings? Intelligent people seek to find out who they are. Closed minds gossip and remain victims.

Someone here obviously has a personal vendetta against this person and hates them so much they are willing to defame them behind the shield of annonimity rather than pursue proper channels. I see no facts in this report but only a lot of cowardly anger and hatred based on personal projection.

No people, what we have here are powerless people too quick to stick in the sword because they see an easy target in someone who is not like them.

Sophia Zannis is one of the finest people I have ever met.  She is a highly intelligent, caring, hard working, dedicated, talented, cheerful, kind, loving person, admired by everyone who knows her.  I have met many of Sophia's friends and colleagues, many of whom have known her for 20 years or more. All have nothing but the highest regard for her.  The Ripoff Report postings are horrible, unfair and grossly inaccurate and were obviously posted by a person or persons who took basic facts about her background and purposely defamed her with outrageous and untrue claims that are pure fantasy.  The author(s) of this vicious fiction could use some serious psychological counseling.  For Riposs Report to post these unsubstantiated and anonymous rants is a gross injustice.

Sophia used to very melodramatically tell a sob story about how when her father died he cut her completely out of his will and left all his money to his relatives overseas. Sophia told it as a tale of rejection and woe. Recently I ran Sophia's name through a search engine and was astounded at what I found out happened instead. There are articles from her hometown paper in Watertown, NY that state, first of all, that her father bequeathed half of his considerable estate to Sophia's mother and the other half to Sophia herself, and second, that Sophia willingly signed her half of the house over to her mother.

Sophia's father did not cut her out of his will. It was all a lie, and a very sick one at that. It also illustrates the sort of character that this pathetic woman possesses.

I want to suggest that Sophia Zannis is sick and dangerously so. Only a very sick person would make up such a story about her own dad. I want to repeat that I do not believe this woman should be teaching teenagers. She should be in a psychiatric facility receiving very intensive treatment. The New York City Board of Education needs to take heed that the placement of Zannis in a teaching position at a high school is quite dangerous. I only hope that her generous, unfairly slandered father is able to rest in peace.

I knew this woman and I have been watching this thread with interest for some time now, very glad this story is getting out. Ms. Zannis is not just someone who becomes impassioned about certain subjects. She can become physically violent. I have seen her myself. She became violent many years ago with me. I think it's a good thing that someone is trying to warn people about her here, especially if she is teaching.

Unlike Sun hee, my experience with Ms. Zannis is that she is kind, insightful and professional. Being worked up over injustice is a trait that is real. Ms. Zannis is real. I distrust Sun hee's perspective because it is clearly a power-trip gone awry, with a need for the final-word of someone's character--which has not been earned.

Allow me to repeat that, I find Ms. Zannis to be kind, insightful and professional.

Sophia Zannis has been nuts for years. She teaches at Newcomers High School in Queens New York. She does not need students. She needs enablers. May God help the kids of Newcomers High School because with Sophia there nobody else will!

I am a former employee of a company that also employed Sophia Zannis and the situation with her was even worse than the way it's reported on here.

First of all Sophia was fired from the company where we both worked for falsifying her expense reports. I heard she has since "taught" at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City and all I can say is what did she teach, Petty Larceny 101? For this particular woman of all people to be working at a college that trains professionals to fight crime is outrageous and also hilarious. Whoever does the hiring at John Jay College needs his/her head examined if THIS is an example of the teachers they choose there.

In addition Sophia had more hangups than any other human being I have ever met before or since. She bragged that she was in individual psychotherapy, group therapy, Debtors Unanimous, went to Greek church services, then to Jewish synagogue services, then contacted and paid New Age Channelers to talk to her dead parents on the Astral Plane, and it didn't stop there, because THEN the bastion of stability ran to sign up for Self Forgiveness Seminars, all kinds of nutty treatments, tranquilizers, brandy, and, last but not least, paid for a church service to be held at the Greek Cathedral for, get this, "the healing of her tongue," because she's quite vicious interpersonally, and by the way, the service didn't work. She also ran around saying she was "an orphan" because both of her parents had died but she was something like 50 years old as she ran around saying it. Yes, 50. When people hit the age of 50 it's common to have lost one or both parents. Not for old Sophia. She desperately tried to use it to get attention. She also reported to work one day saying, "I'm all right today. I'm on drugs!" She didn't clarify if they were prescription drugs or the street kind. One can only wonder.

What concerned me was that when she would tell people about all these bizarre panaceas she was running around after, and she bragged about this stuff continuously, if anyone said politely to her that we weren't interested in this kind of stuff, she'd turn around and verbally attack us. This was a woman who would try ANY cure all except a little self respect, which is what she was sorely lacking and desperately needing. Yet when confronted with any one of us who already had too much self respect to emulate Sophia and to run along with her to the psychic channelers or whatever, she'd get unbelievably nasty. Sophia Zannis was easily the worst co worker I ever had. Her ultimate and well deserved firing for padding her expense reports came as a delightful relief.

Yet she is clearly not playing with the proverbial full deck, plus she's explosive, so I shudder to think of the damage she might inflict on young people if she really is teaching. I agree with the author of the first report completely.
