I received a collection notice from Cavalry Portfolio; however, this was for a balance paid in full to Sprint PCS over two years ago!

I called Cavalry to find out how their organization works, and if it is common practice to solicit paid off accounts from clients.

I was told that they purchased over 3,000,000 accounts from Sprint, and, yes some have been paid off, but mistakes happen.

Amazing! I asked how could a zero balance be turned over to a collection agency, they had no answer except the "mistakes...blah blah blah" answer. That answer is not sufficient. How many people out there with zero balances are being forced to pay for fear of a bad credit score? THIS MUST BE STOPPED!!!! IT IS FRAUDULENT! I am proposing filing a class action lawsuit against both organizations. (Sprint PCS & Cavalry). Please indicate on this website if you wish to file as well, and I will begin proceedings. I deal with collection agencies on a daily basis in my work, WE CANNOT LEGALLY TURN OVER A ZERO BALANCE TO A COLLECTION AGENCY, WE CAN BE FINED IF WE DO, EVEN IF IT IS IN ERROR!

How I intend to handle Cavalry/Sprint

AUTHOR: Kathy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 31, 2005

When I first placed the angry phone call to Cavalry for sending me a collection letter on an account that has been paid off, I demanded to speak to a supervisor, and then the director. I infomed this person that I intend to begin proceedings in order to file a class action lawsuit, since, according to another employee at Cavalry, Sprint sold over 3,000,000 names to this collection agency.

He immediately cleared the account.

However, what concerns me are the postings where others have stated that they were required to send a copy of their identification card and social security number because of potential identity theft.

I believe that this company is a huge scam, many people will pay and send in unecessary information because they are worried about a bad credit score. Others, like several people who have fought them, have the opportunity to end this reprehensible con game, and help those who are either afraid to fight corporations, or simply don't have the resources.

So far, I've filed a complaint with my state's attorney general's office. The next step is the FTC. In addition, another post states that if Sprint sold an account that has a zero balance, they have violated Title VIII of the Fair Collections Act, meaning that we can sue Sprint for $1000 in small claims court, which I fully intend to do. Imagine if all of us who were victims of the scam filed lawsuits against Sprint, 3,000,000 x $1,000, corporations might think twice before trying to screw the general public over!

Sprint / RPM / Attention LLC / Cavalry Scammed my husband

AUTHOR: Keisha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 21, 2005

My husband had a Sprint PCS account that went into collections. It went to a company called RPM (Receivables Performance Management) and he settled with them back in 2003. I finally got them to send us a close letter, but somehow it was still sent to a new collections agency called Attention LLC.

I called them and faxed them the close letter from RPM, and I was supposed to receive a close letter but never did. I left it alone, unfortunately, because I forgot.

Well in trying to recently buy a new home and do the whole loan thing we found out that it was sent to yet ANOTHER agency - Cavalry Portfolio.

Well I called them and faxed them the close letter from RPM and they too were supposed to send us a close letter. I have been following up and no letter.

In addition to all the above, I have been writing to the credit bureaus asking them to remove this from my husband's account, but they keep telling me that the close information that I received is not sufficient and that they will go back to the debtor and confirm that it's been paid.

I don't trust that it will be taken care of. I know that Sprint is going to say that it has not been paid off, and in the meantime here is my husband's credit with a very low credit score because of this. This isn't fair!!!
