. [continued below]....
....On August 10, 2012, a sales rep from SRI Inc (Delray Beach, FL) sold my client (a pizza shop in North Canton, OH) advertising in school folders to be distributed at Hoover High School and Walsh University (also in North Canton, OH). The sales rep told my client the folders would be delivered at the beginning of the school year to parents, students, faculty and staff. My client wrote two checks (one for each ad) totally $586. (The original quote for the ad space totalled $700).
The artwork for the ads was emailed on August 14, 2012 and I placed a call to confirm the advertisements were received.
When the date passed, I called SRI Inc in September 2012 and asked for delivery date and confirmation. The man I spoke with was literally hysterical and said I was misled, the folders are printed for Drug Awareness Month in October. Before then, the client would receive a proof to sign off and the folders (containing drug education materials) would be delivered by the second week of October. The man at SRI, referring to the sales rep, said "I should cut her finders off for misleading you." Personally, I thought it an over reaction for miscommunication, but the work culture might be different in Florida.
By this time, I believed the entire "red folder" project was a scam, but gave SRI more time to make good on their promise. On November 15, 2012, I called again. This time the background was eerily quiet. The man who answered the phone was very calm and took down my information and said he would pass it onto the responsible person. I suspect the company is now closed or under investigation, so I Googled the company name and found another Scam Report filed on this site.
Ironically, the sales rep called two more times trying to sell more advertising for next year's 'red folders.'
