I applied for a loan online through a company that finds lenders willing to loan to those with bad credit. Stanford Financial contacted me and said I was approved. If I did not own any type of collateral I would have to secure the loan myself by paying a deposit. I would have to do this by Money Gram and send it to the lender's representative Kimberly Brennen in St John NB, or Canada. I was leary of this but my account representative Jane Larson assured me that this was a legitimate contract, and that funds would be dispursed into my checking account the following day before 5pm. I have all of the documents sent to me and all money gram information as well. The next day I called Jane back to check on the status of things. She said all was fine and that I need to call her when the funds hit my account. About an hour after that phone call I was contacted by the supposed Manager-David Oliver stating that after further review I would have to make another payment of $820 to them due to my credit in order to secure the loan. I said no I will not, I was afraid that this was a scam. He perceeded to yell at me and told me that we will cancel the loan and that a refund would be in my account by December 12th. This is over a month away. They will not answer my phone calls or anything now and I want to make sure that they are stopped and do not do this to anyone else. I would also like to get my money back, but I do not see that happening. Now, I am in jeopardy of losing things that I have due to not being able to pay for them. Would someone please help!!

#12 Consumer Suggestion

File written complaints for fraud.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 20, 2008

This probably won't get you a refund-the scammers move about rather quickly. The phone number for them will probably go dead soon if it isn't already.

However, it doesn't hurt to file criminal complaints. You should file complaints with the FBI and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Both agencies have websites and deal with internet/cross border scams. Any documentation you have will help.

Just so you know for the future: It is ABSOLUTELY ILLEGAL for a lender to require; insurance, collateral payments, prepaid monthly payments and the like as a condition of granting consumer loans. Any outfit that tells you to make such payments is breaking US federal law and is most likely a scam.

Additionally, I would suggest you stop looking for loans on the internet. I've read many such ripoff reports as this, and they all seem to have one thing in common-the victim was looking/applying for a loan on the internet.

I'm not saying ALL internet loan outfits are scams, but any that require "collateral payments", insurance, or so many months prepaid in advance most likely are because such requirements are ILLEGAL in the US. It should also be noted that requiring these payments via moneygram, western union, and the like is a BIG RED FLAG that is most likely a scam.

Forgive me, Klyntx of Texas!

AUTHOR: Sandra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 22, 2008

Forgive me, Klyntx, I was WRONG-WRONG-WRONG in pre-maturely defending Stanford Financial. They proved to me they truly are nothing but the ultimate in the 'Advance Loan Fee' Scam Atristry! I was vulnerably led to belive they'd fully come through for me, yet, not only did this not happen, they had the audacity to again try and get thousands more out of me and why shouldn't they, I played right into their slimmy hands.

I apologize for any mis-leading I served to others in trusting this so-called company, and the staff that words there. I am now fearful for even my personal safety since they have all my pertinent information in-hand, and I have contacted law enforcement authorities.

Stanford Financial is TRULY a SCAM! They ensure they and YOUR money remain completley untraceable and provide NO PROOF of who they are or what they claim to provide, yet, they harrass, intimidate and reassure you to PROVE to them you are loan trustworthy.

Have faith, Klyntx.

AUTHOR: Sandra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Klyntx,
I am here to encourage you to have faith.
Stanford Financial came through for me and I know they will for you too.
I would fully trust you'll receive your refund.
I believe that Mr. Oliver's job must be very stressful in the challenge of matching lenders with applicants who are high-risk; perhaps this was cause for his frustration and outburst you and I dealt with when we expressed our frustration, fear and upset to him.
He has come through for me with unending patience and countless hours on the phone explaining carefully to me the entire process and reassuring me of the validity and trustworthiness of Stanford Financial. He and Stanford Financial have fully proven themselves to me and I am very grateful.

ANOTHER ADVANCED FEE LOAN SCAM -YOUR FAULT

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 17, 2008

Because you did not research them before sending money.

It does not matter what you needed the money for - you got scammed because you ASSUMED it was legitimate

google Advanced Fee Loan Scams and see what comes up - like this one
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/telemarketing/tel16.shtm

Don't expect to see any refund, they never intended to give you a loan, just take money from you.
