Staples is NOT Responsible

Staples is only the processor of the package. Staples does not hardly make a dime on shipping packages for UPS, its more of a convenience and a courtesy. Kinda like a gas station selling lottery tickets, they don't make any money in it either. No differently than if you ship a package from Kroger, or anywhere else that ships packages for carriers.
For instance the software in there belongs to UPS, the money goes to UPS, your package goes through UPS. Therefore, UPS should soley be responsible for your package. Kinda like if your in a big shopping center such as Kroger and lets say one of the handicap parking signs falls and damages your vehicle; then Kroger is not responsible for that just because they are the largest store in the shopping center, the landlord that owns that property would have to pay for that. Have some common sense dude. Sorry that happend to you, but you know whom to hold accountable and UPS should live up to their delivery promises.

Did you insure it for over the standard $100.00 that comes with the shipping charge, did they pack it or did you.?
A little more info would be good.
