Around the end of April 2019 We needed some renovation done and since we are retired seniors my husband did look online to hire some local trade and we did found this person Steve Therrien Perron on Kijiji, he claimed to be and expert framer and siding experts, he did also told us that he could fix and install some new windows.

He came to our house and give us a free estimate and we did agreed to his estimate and pay him a deposit for the materials. After that we didn’t hear from him and we had to call him several times before finally he did show up to start working, after only 2 days he did again ask my husband for money but this time he ask for cash, he did told my husband that he had a problem with his car and that his employer didn’t paid him, so we did feel sorry and we did give him what he asked another $2000, the very next day he did call saying he was sick and he couldn’t come to work.

After 2 weeks of phone calls and emails he finally showed up, he was working only few hours a day but for the most he was smoking than work, he did repairs two windows and the shingles and after the first rain the roof did flood our kitchen and the windows is not working anymore.

We called him the same night, and he did come the next day and removed all the shingles from the roof and then he told my husband he needed some more money or he was going to leave the roof open, at that point we did smell that he had been drinking probably while he was working and my husband did fire him and ask him to leave our property and don’t comeback.

Be careful to this individual he his an horrible person that belong in jail, he can present himself good and he definitely knows how to scam people, but in reality he is an horrible trade definitely with some serious drinking problems.

"Handyman"= "Out of Work, Lazy Scammer"

AUTHOR: John - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, May 26, 2019

The excuses people at this site give for hiring a "handyman" instead of a bonded, licensed company to do contruction work generallly include "I was trying to help someone out," "he said he could do the job faster and quicker," "It was a small and easy job," "he was a friend," etc. etc. ETC but it always comes down to not being willing to do any research or homework and being very, very flippant (yet greedy) with money.

All "handymen" are suspect- if they knew what they were doing and were honest, they'd work for a company that had a license and was bonded (insured.)  Giving someone with no money a bundle of money with no legal strings attached is just asking to be conned. So you paid a stupid tax and now you'll need to pay more to get the job done, if you can even afford to now.  And you probably can't get your money back from this bum without going to court, which is probably a waste of time as the guy may have no assets (it's why he's a "handyman.")

Please, people- STOP hiring people off the street to do the work of professionals.  Even if they DO show up and do the work, the work won't be under any kind of warranty and will NEVER be done to anything close to the quality you can get from a licensed business.
