I did not even have the chance to make it past the front desk, so this review will focus on Dr. Honl's staff.
I came to the clinic for an emergency appointment due to a progressing abscess near my left lower molar. I was in pain, had swollen lymph nodes and a low grade fever in addition to the purulent fluid coming from the abscess. The desk clerk asked the usual demographic data and all as well until she asked for my insurance. I told her to bill it as an emergency claim to the Veterans Administration and they would pay them.

That was when their "Financial Specialist" came to the front and told me that it wouldn't work. That the VA didn't pay in a "timely manner" and I would have to pay out of pocket.

I explained that emergency claims I had put in in the past had been taken care of very quickly. She reiterated that I should pay out of pocket if I wanted to get seen today, or otherwise go to Milwaukee or Madison and see the VA there.

As a college student who works two jobs and barely scrapes by I chose to take my emergent condition elsewhere and went to Hom Dentistry where I was seen immediately and without regard to having to bill the VA.
The deference and outright distaste shown by Dr. Honl's staff at having to deal with a veteran was appalling. I was refused treatment simply because they didn't want to wait a few weeks for their $111 dollars; apparently "supporting the troops" doesn't go further than a bumper sticker for this business.

I would encourage all veterans and their friends and families to avoid the Stevens Point Dental Care Center at all costs.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

Aaron,

You might not understand the way the VA works.

I, too, am a Veteran. I have a 30% rated disability and recieve compensation as well as limited medical care at the VA, or designated provider IF they so choose.

And, MOST dental care is not even covered by the VA.
You would need a VA rating of at least 60% to have any level of dental care provided, and even then, VERY limited, based on availability.

Good luck
