My experience is almost the same as the others listed on this site.  I started getting phone calls from different areas of the country, all of them claiming to be calling to make sure I was receiving my magazines.  I promptly informed the representatives that I do not subscribe to any magazines, and the caller blithely went on with their spiel telling me they had been receiving reports of magazines not arriving, or arriving in ripped up condition.  Again, on 3 or 4 occasions I told the caller that I have never subscribed and never will subscribe to Better Homes and Gardens.  When I asked to speak to a supervisor since the person I was speaking with was not listening, they hung up on me.  Some of the locations I received calls from were Florida, Tennessee, and New York.  When I called back, I was hung up on again.  I erroneously thought that that was the end of it.  NOPE.  Instead, I received two Better Homes and Gardens in a row, and now a third.  Today, I called Better Homes and Gardens, and was told that I was correct, I had never subscribed, but a third party magazine fulfillment center was sending the magazines to me as a "free trial."  When I told her what I had been dealing with, she sounded like she was hearing this lot.  She immediately gave me the name of the company sending me the magazines and told me to call them.  It was called Subco, Inc and she gave me the phone number to call 800-258-3350. Lucky for me, she also cancelled the subscription in the computer for me and guaranteed I would not be sent any more.

I called Subco after talking to Better Homes and Gardens rep today and spoke to Lori at Subco, Inc and explained the problem.  She told me that the idea was to send unsolicited 3-month magazine subscriptions out, and see if people like them.  I told her it was unethical, and I was not going to pay for them.  She sounded very sympathetic, and then she drops another bomb, I am also signed up for Redbook too!!  I told her I am on a do not call list, and if this was the new way of doing business, then I deeply resented it, and felt it was fraudulent.  Lori told me she was going to "immediately" remove my name and phone number from the computer and put a Do Not Contact notice / or solicit as well.  Then she told me that I might still receive a few subscriptions since the mailing labels were preprinted and applied, ready to ship.  According to Lori, both Better Homes and Gardens and Redbook have been cancelled. I told Lori at Subco if she found any other magazines to be sure they were cancelled as well.  She assured me they would be.  Then, since I am a curious sort, I went to Subco's website.  Guess what?  They have an FAQ almost solely dedicated to these issues regarding cancellation, how did they get your address, etc.  What a gimmick, I wonder how many people just give up and pay for the magazines?  I will be reporting back if I get anything further from them, but this sounds fraudulent to me, and to hang up on someone when they want to know how they got your information, is upsetting and not a little frightening.  The internet is spawning a completely new breed of sharks, and they are looking for our wallets.
