Another monopoly hits the keys ...This time it is suburban propane ... They have recently bought the local gas company and now I have to deal with them ??
I had been with the same gas company since moving to the keys and had been under a contract and knew exactly what I was paying ... The other day suburban delivered me gas and then gave me a bill which was much higher than ever before . It had gone up a dollar per gallon and suburban did not think to tell me before delivering ...
I called to complain and was told by the rather rude manager john that there was no way i was under contract and thats the price ...take it or leave it ...
It is not right to deliver a product and only then disclose price increases ...

When a company is purchased more often then not any contract with the previous company is cancelled with no penalties. Such as ETF, ect. This means that you WERE under contract but now you are not. This means that you should be able to leave them with no issues, as they state you DO NOT have a contract. All they really purchased was the CUSTOMERS!!! Yes, it SOUNDS shady, but if they are the ONLY propane in your area and you NEED propane in order to run your home, then all they are doing is filling your usual order. Remember prices on NATURAL RESOURCES tend to fluxuate. Contracts do serve a valuable service. They tend to also "lock" you into your current pricing. But if you are out of contract then you will pay the CURRENT rate. Kinda sucky but NOT illegal.
They are right in the fact that they are the only propane providers in your area. If you want gas you have to deal with their pricing. You could always try bringing in your own propane.....
