I use to work at My Funding Resources. I had to leave because I was feeling guilty and tired of deceiving and lying to people. My Funding Resources is now called Success Advocates. They change their name frequently trying to stay one step ahead of internet research. If a customer researches this company they typically cancel or never purchase services. The company has been doing business this way for years. They are experts at deceiving their customers and train their employees to be deceptive as well.

This company buys your information which is generated by anyone who inquires about the "Free Money" book or does an internet search for grant information. At the very least the information purchased contains your name and phone number. The information purchased is then printed out on a “lead sheet” which is given to the telemarketers to call. The services provided are greatly
exaggerated by the representatives who call the consumer. The old saying "if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is" definitely applies in this instance.

The least expensive service provided by the company costs the consumer $1,150.00, which costs the company $50.00! That's right $1100.00 is all commission for everyone from the telemarketer to upper management. This charge is to research all the grants that you qualify for. This research consists of an internet search for your grant category that they print out, put in a binder, and send to you the customer.

The next charge starts at $2,700.00, which is for the research and 4 weeks of coaching and mentoring. 4 weeks of coaching and mentoring cost the company $200.00, every dollar over this ($2,500.00) again goes to commission. The coaching and mentoring consists of a 1/2 hour phone call once per week. The company that provides this coaching are not even grant experts. They are a professional coaching and mentoring company that other companies hire to do all types of
coaching. The price goes up about $1,000.00 for every additional 2 weeks of coaching.

The company's favorite people to call are the elderly because they are usually easier to sell the services to. The elderly usually have more available funds on credit cards and/or in checking accounts. They typically don't do research on the company and are less likely to cancel.

All charges are either charged to a credit card or electronic check. If people don't have credit cards and/or money in a checking account they don't receive services unless the payment is received up front. My Funding Resources doesn't guarantee that the customer will receive a grant. They also will not deduct the fees charged from the grant. The company will not write grants either.

My Funding Resources does not even do business in Sandy, Utah. This is a subdivision of Salt Lake City, which is the capitol of Utah. What company doesn’t do business in their own city? The company will only do business in Utah if the customer lives over 3 hours from Salt Lake City. It is rumored that a dissatisfied customer, from Salt Lake, made a bomb threat and this is why they don’t do business in the area. The company’s headquarters are located in a secure building. No one can enter unless they use an intercom, located at the main entrance, which is then opened by the
receptionist. 90% of the employees have no equipment (like computers) and actually have to write down the information on the leads provided for them to contact. Therefore the secured building is not for fear of theft, etc.

Grant money is free! The grant proposal does have to be written in a specific format for the government to consider the request though. If you want to do this yourself you can buy the book "Grants for Dummies". This book will take you step by step through the grant writing process. There are companies that will write the grants for a fee as well. If you want to spend money then hire a company that will write the grant for you and that will work with you, based on your specific needs.

If you feel that you're a victim of this scam you can file a report with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov or call 1-877-FTC-Help, in Canada file at econsumer.gov. All complaints are entered into the Consumer Sentinel Network, a secure online database used by hundreds of law enforcement agencies in the U.S. an abroad. You can also go online to their website for "things you can do to avoid fraud".

I hope this information is useful to you. I hope no one else falls victim to this scam. Before you give any company or person any information about you please do diligence.

AUTHOR: Representative of Company - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, March 18, 2011

I am writing to rebut what this claimed former employee has said about My Funding Resources.  I do not work for the company, but I do work with the company.  I am biased - I will admit that right upfront.  I don't think you can give much credence to anyone who does not admit their own biases.

This former employee claims to be coming to Ripoff Report out of a guilty conscience.  However, given the extent of this ex-employee's allegations, it would seem that he worked for the company for a long period of time before his supposed guilty conscience caused him to act.  In reality, this ex-employee was likely fired, meaning that he has decided to exact some retribution on the company that fired him by coming online and spouting his claimed facts and figures in the hopes of damaging the company.  Or, he is flat out lying.  This does not create much in the way of credibility for the individual.

Either way, I feel it necessary to address some of the concerns that this ex-employee has raised with the alleged scam that he participated in over a lengthy period of time:

It is true that the company operates in a secured building.  The leased premises are owned and operated by a company that leases space to several companies in several buildings.  The owner of the buildings saw fit to include a secured main entrance to this and each of its buildings, to the best of my knowledge.  This ex-employee appears to be attempting to claim that the secured building is further evidence that the company operates a "scam".  There is no basis for such an insinuation, especially as the company does not own the building it operates in.

This ex-employee is clearly unaware of the costs to the company.  I am not going to write and say that the company does not seek to earn a profit.  It is a for-profit business.  However, this fired employee does not possess accurate information regarding the costs that the company incurs throughout the process of helping its customers find and apply for grants and funding opportunities.  One thing that this ex-employee did state correctly is that the company does not and cannot guarantee receipt of a grant.  Whether a customer obtains a grant depends on a lot of things, including the commitment of the customer and whether the customer actually applies for funding opportunities.  Because the company cannot control what the customer will do with the information provided to the customer, the company does ask for payment upfront.  Any business providing educational materials does the same thing.  It isn't as though someone can attend college without paying for it until after they receive a diploma.  Rather, you pay for the information you receive.  What the individual does with the information is up to them.

The company receives information about individuals who have expressed interest in seeking funding opportunities.  The company does not seek out any particular demographic.  Rather, the company receives information about any and all sizes, shapes and ages of people seeking funding opportunities and resources.  The company does not seek out or prefer to sell to any demographic.  Perhaps this is what this ex-employee did while he worked for the company - and this is potentially why the individual no longer works for the company.

The company has stringent policies and procedures in place to ensure that each customer is treated fairly and receives what he or she has paid for.  The company does offer a guarantee that it will find funding opportunities for which the customer is qualified to apply for.  If there are no funding opportunities available for the customer to apply for, the customer is refunded 100%.

The company does do business in Sandy, Utah.  This is where the headquarters of the company is located.  The company has a business license with the city and is a registered Utah entity.  The company receives information about individuals who are seeking financial assistance, usually in the form of grants.  Because there is a significant amount of information about grants available to everyone, the company provides personalized research tailored to the individual customers' profiles.  This way the individual does not receive information about applying for grants in one state when the customer lives in an entirely different state.  The research is done by a firm specializing in grant researching services.  The customer's information is used to develop a personalize packet of information of grants and other funding opportunities available to the individual customer.  The company then contacts the customer to walk through the results of the research to ensure that the customer understands what he or she is looking at.

If the customer has purchased mentoring services with the company, the customer is then contacted weekly by the mentoring staff to assist the customer through the application process for the grant and funding opportunities available to that individual.  These individuals are trained in the process of writing grant applications and can fully assist anyone through this process.  These phone calls typically happen once a week, but may be more frequent depending on the needs of the individual customer.  By the end of the mentoring sessions, the customer either has or is prepared to apply for the funding the customer is seeking.

This company provides a valuable service to its customers.  It seeks to pair individuals looking for funding resources with those resources.  The company further seeks to prepare the individual to be able to be competitive in applying for funding opportunities.  The company's goal is to ensure that its customers are satisfied with their purchase and that the customers are as best prepared to enter the world of grant applications as possible.  Armed with personalized research and mentoring based on the research results, the customer should be prepared to apply for, and hopefully obtain the funding resources they desire.

This ex-employee is attempting to muddy the waters for anyone seeking help in researching and applying for funding opportunities.  He has his reasons for doing so, but he is only supplying misinformation or lies.
