This apartment place took advantage of the fact that i am a foreigner"international student" and i can't fend for myself and kept my deposit money while still charging me for a month and half of rent for a house i didn't even have the keys for.

the story goes like this, my lease was ending at Apr 31. so just like any one would do, i went to the leasing office and notified them that i was moving out soon. the secretaries heard me and passed on without any questions asked. towards the end of the month, i even rented a storage place from them and started to move my stuff out. then at Apr 31, i gave away all my keys and scheduled a walk through for the coming week. On that date, i got there on time and attended the walk through and even signed the comment paper. I was then told that my deposit money will be mailed to me so i left.
after a while, days changed into weeks and i went there to ask for my deposit money. Once again i was replied the same answer"u will get it through the mail" so i left again. once again, i waited but nothing, so i went there once more. sadly enough the response was once again i will get it through the mail so i left. this thing continued for at least once more.

But then after a month and half of driving back and forth to their place, i asked one of the secretaries to check the status on the case because it was obviously taking longer than expected. She then tapped some keys in her computer and to my surprise, told me i awe them a month and half rent. the same people who did the walkthrough and took my keys now think i was living in an empty apartment that i don't have the keys to. i asked why and their response was i didn't sign "a vacating notice". apparently the secretaries who were sitting there failed to mention this to me when i told them i was moving out a decade ago. now i have to pay for a house i haven't lived in, and to make matters worse i even have to pay late fees and utility bills for an empty house that i haven't lived in. i now have to go to court over this issue.

f anyone could give me a legal advice, please help. after all am a foreigner and black on top of that and this is the reason this has happened to me.
