On January 9th, 2004, we bought a precious, happy and delightful golden retriever puppy from Super Puppy's in Coral Springs, Florida. They had named him Rocky and it suited him, so we kept his name Rocky.

For three months, we loved and adored him. He was happy and full of love and life. He was growing beautifully. We enrolled him in obedience training and he graduated top in his class. He was very smart and a quick learner and so eager to please. He was soft as silk and had a beautiful little face.

Rocky developed a disease called HOD(hypertrophic osteodystropy) which is very rare and affects fast growing large breed dogs. He had a severe fever and was completely lame. We were told he would get through this in 3-5 weeks, so we were determined to do whatever it took to keep him as comfortable as possible.

Rocky's condition worsened and we took him to Hollywood Animal Hospital for the second time. They did everything they could to save him, but he developed pnemonia and his little heart stopped beating on April 7th at 11:30pm. Poor little precious angel. We are heartbroken and miss him so much.

It has been well over a month since we contacted Super Puppy's about his death. Linda wanted all of the vet reports which we got her immediately. Even in our grief, our 2 sons wanted a new puppy right away. She asked us what we wanted. We told her and she offered us a puppy that was not right for our family. So she said we'd have to wait.

She said she would call us, but never has. She said she wanted everyone to be happy, but we are not. We spent almost $3,000 to try to save him and he is gone and Linda could not possibly care less. She got her money and we have nothing. Be careful when you buy from her. If anything happens to your puppy, she'll just stomp on your heart even more and do nothing.

I agree with Jeff, It is clear to me based on the facts that this puppy broker can not be blamed for the death

AUTHOR: Bree - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 05, 2004

I have been a vet tech for 5 years and a dog owner for 16 years. It is clear to me based on the facts that this puppy broker can not be blamed for the death of your precious Rocky. True, puppy brokers are despicable people. True, their breeding stock are often unhealthy. But HOD can not be shown to be hereditary in this case. If the puppy had died within the first week, you might have some sort of valid claim. Unfortunately, HOD is one of those terrible occurrences that we often do not understand. And as Jeff said, it can be attributed to diet, which would definitely not be the puppy brokers fault after 3 months. I am truly sorry for your loss, and I hope the next dog you get is from a responsible breeder with a guarantee.

Jeff has no heart

AUTHOR: Jacqui - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 21, 2004

Sometimes people take care of other people out of the goodness of their hearts, not because they are required to by contract. Barbara is right in that buying a puppy is an act of love. I completely understood my problem, but more than that, I don't know many people who would spend 575.00 on a puppy and expect it to live only 3 months. If this happened to you and you had fallen in love and lost YOUR puppy, I think you'd have more empathy and compassion than you do. Jeff, what goes around comes around and I've already cried enough tears over losing Rocky to worry about your pathetic response to my heartbreak. You are the one who needs to get a life. You have nothing better to do than search rip off reports to look for someone to b***h at. I feel more sorry for you today than myself. Go eat a donut and you'll feel better.

It is not a hereditary disease

AUTHOR: Jeff - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 21, 2004

Hypertrophic osteodystrophy, also referred to as HOD, is an orthopedic disease seen in immature large and giant breed dogs. The cause of HOD is unknown, but it may be linked to diet or an infectious disease.

Just how can you expect a retailer to help you with this problem? It is not a hereditary disease. If someone throws a baseball through your window do you go back to the window store and claim it is defective?

As for Barbara she is the typical "lets just demonize without knowing what I'm talking about" crazy.

I've worked in sales and customer service positions for 20 years- You both give cutumers a bad name. Please Please please have a legitimate gripe before causing a scene! You were not ripped off - just think you were because you failed to understand your problem, and without trying to do so- you blame the retailer.

Get real and in the future lets not ask those not responsible for a problem you have to correct it for you.

My Heart Breaks With You, Thier home page immediately gave them away as puppy BROKERS

AUTHOR: Barbara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 17, 2004

I took a look at Super Puppy's web page and red flags immediately went up for me..Thier home page immediately gave them away as puppy BROKERS
not BREEDERS.

"We use only quality breeders throughout our country. New puppies arrive daily and special orders are available on any breed large or small"

These comments on thier home page tell you immediately that they are buying from puppy mills, a travesty that exists mainly in the midwestern states..who then ship these poor hapless dogs all over the country. There are groups that go to puppy mill auctions and literally rescue dogs by buying them from their enslavers. You can find more information about these puppy mills at nopuppymills.com..but be warned, thier stories will also break your heart.

When buying a dog, it's so important to see the actual breeding facilities they were born in and to meet the parents of the dog. Are the parents healthy, happy dogs? Are there clean kennels and plenty of fresh food and water? Do the dogs have a place to run? Verifying these facts for yourself are the only way to really know your dog has a clean bill of health. Puppymill dogs, on the other hand, are born in filthy cages often stacked atop each other, letting the urine and feces drip down from cage to cage. Thier parents have probably never been out of thier cages and no doubt are very sick themselves. Yet the puppymills still breed them.

Puppy Brokers, such as Super Puppy's Inc. and for that matter, most pet stores like the ones you find in any typical mall in anywhere USA are the main customers of these horrendous puppy mills. There simply isn't enough profit margin for them to buy from actual breeders who breed for the love of the dog and not just for profit. Thier offspring have little chance of growing into healthy dogs and these brokers KNOW it.

I'm so sorry that your family got stung by these sadistic, greedy puppy brokers. I feel for poor Rocky, who never had a chance..I strongly urge you to sue Super Puppy's even though the experience may bring up alot of pain for you. What they do for thier money is simply unconscionable and they should be made to answer for thier crimes against animals and thier humans.

The very best way to attain a loving dog is through a rescue group or the local pound.
There you will find 'throwaway' dogs who need loving homes and are fully aware that they're being rescued and will reward you with a lifetime of love for saving them. Many of these dogs are purebred "Christmas puppies" who turn into inconvenient real dogs. You will have the pleasure of watching a misused, mistreated animal, many of whom are very fine inteligent animals who were dumped off at the pound because the owner simply didn't have the patience for them, bloom from a frightened animal into a happy loving dog. Large breed dogs are most prevalant, although mini lovers can sometimes get lucky.

There are internet rescue groups who specialize in specific breeds..you can type 'Golden Retriever Rescue" and your state into a search engine and you'll find wonderful dogs that have been rescued and fostered in good homes to prepare them for thier 'forever' homes. I believe this is the very best way to get a puppy or young dog..or get an older dog..they have so much love to give.

If you MUST have a brand spanking new fresh out of the box purebred puppy, buy through a breeder who shows at dog shows. This is your only guarantee that your dog and it's parents were bred for love of the breed. There are also a number of good dog groups on the internet. I suggest joining a group that specializes in the breed you're interested in. There you will hopefully find people who love the breed and hate puppy mills. Get to know the people in the group and research any breeder carefully, being sure that they show, before you sign that check.

I hope this has helped you..I know nothing can take away all that pain. I don't suggest getting another dog from Super Puppy's. I suggest suing Super Puppys..In fact, I have no doubt that if you join an online Retriever group and tell them your story, you'll get tremendous support and advice from people who dedicate thier lives to the betterment of animal rights. BUT be aware that there are plenty of BROKERS hanging out on these sites too..so ultimately..just be very careful. Buying a puppy is an act of love, but I can't say the same for selling a puppy.
